Healthy Lighting Workspace Makeover Giveaway from Verilux

I have been working on lighting in my craft room/sewing room with Heather, my new friend at Verilux for the last few months! And have we got a great giveaway for you today!!

Verilux - The Healthy Lighting Company

We redid our basement about 6 years ago and I think we might have put in the wrong size can lights, because they warm the upstairs floor. The basement, or what we call the 1st Floor, is where we spend a lot of our time because it’s our room, my son’s play room and it’s our craft room! And the lights that seem to be a problem are the ones in the craft/sewing room. So my husband and I were talking about how to fix it. And I’m not kidding, literally, a couple of days later I get this email from Heather asking if I could try out some of her lights!!! Would I like to revive the lighting in my craft and sewing room??? It was like she heard us talking…. So of course I said yes!

Verilux-Bulbs-ImFeelinCrafty

Next step… Happy Mail! Yea!!

Verilux-SewingRoomBefore-ImFeelinCrafty

So this is my room before the lighting revision. And yes, I have a bunch of stuff. Trying ot work on that… Remember my finish along.. We’re just talking lighting here! heheh!

Verilux-SewingRoomAfter-ImFeelinCrafty

And then after…. Can you see the difference? I didn’t edit my pictures at all, so I’m hoping you can see it. I can totally feel it! And see it! the colors are more real. And I don’t know exactly what it is, but it feels better to me.

Verilux-SewingRoomLED-ImFeelinCrafty

Originally we tried the LED lights in the work room… Not so much. I have to say though, at first I was in love. the color for everything was right on. I didn’t feel like I got that yellowy color. But after a day or two, we all realized they just weren’t bright enough. My son even asked me to turn up the lights! So then Heather and I started chatting and realized yes, the LED are fantastic, but not what we needed in the craft room.

natural spectrum vs. conventional light

Have you ever used special lighting to enhance your creative endeavors?  When working on a project, it can be a frustrating to find that colors appear differently indoors and outdoors, as well as even under different lamps.  Verilux lighting products emit a broader spectrum of wavelengths, so colors appear truer.   So much so, museums have used their lighting to better illuminate works of art. Verilux fixtures and bulbs emit spectrally enhanced natural spectrum light, which research shows helps  us see better, reduces eye strain and fatigue, as well as improves our ability to process information, which is great for crafting, sewing and for the family work space! The graphic shows the Verilux difference compared to conventional lighting in the eye.

Moreover, just as we feel can feel better on a day full of sunshine, consumers often use Verilux lighting products to increase energy levels and elevate mood.  If you’ve ever heard of light therapy for seasonal affective disorder or the “winter blues,” you know that light can make a huge difference for people.

Verilux-FabricBefore-ImFeelinCrafty

Verilux-FabricAfter-ImFeelinCrafty

You can see the different between the fabric colors. The before on top, the fabrics have that yellowy look where in the after picture below, the colors are more real.

And remember about how I was saying the LED lights didn’t work in the craft room? Well check them out in my bathroom!

Verilux-BathroomBefore-ImFeelinCrafty

Here’s the lighting before!

Verilux-BathroomAfter-ImFeelinCrafty

And after! My bathroom is a very light blueish grey color. Not a taupey yellow…. The after is right on! It’s not as bright as before, but it makes the room the right color! I love it! I remember growing up, my mom had a make-up mirror with the right color bulbs for putting on her ‘face’ as she calls it. Now my whole bathroom is that way!

Verilux-Pagelight-ImFeelinCrafty

One more goodie to tell you about before I share the giveway! As a little bonus, I got this fantastic PageLight! I love it! In my house, I usually stay up later than everyone else crafting and blogging and such. But then when I go to bed, yes I do sleep, I like to read a little. I’m tried so many flashlights, etc. I had been using my iphone flashlight, but it was so bright and lit up the whole room almost. This is perfect. The light levels are adjustable and it only lights the book! Did I mention I love it????

And now what your really waiting to hear about is the giveaway and discount code, right???? Verilux has graciously agreed for one reader to make their very own Healthy Lighting Workspace Makeover! One lucky reader will get to enjoy the benefits of healthy lighting in your workspace with a Brookfield Desk Lamp or your choice of up to 6 bulbs to convert current lighting fixtures or lamps!!!

And every reader can start thier own  make0vers with 25% off Brookfield desk lamp!! Use Promo code: BROOK25, for your 25% off Brookfield desk lamp. (Promo Code valid until 8/15).

‘Gator Quilt Blog Hop- Me Again and a Giveaway!

Yes, it’s the last day of the blog hop… So sad! I’ve loved seeing what everyone has made with the ‘Gator quilt. It was such fun and is inspiring me to make another one!

GatorQuilt-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

Well, I did make another one, but this is actually my very first one!

GatorQuilt-Gator2-ImFeelinCrafty

This was actually my original one. My first test. I just happened to make it while our Modern Quilt Guild was preparing for our Binary quilt show, meaning quilts with only 2 colors.  I made the large ‘gator block. Then I realized, hey! It’s only two colors, I could make this into a quilt for the Binary show. I was only using shades yellow and green. Perfect!

GatorQuilt-BackgroundDtl-ImFeelinCrafty

Then I realized I was out of yellow! So my quilt guild pal that took over my spot at the fabric shop was kind enough to bring me what I thought was the right yellow. But…… It wasn’t. At first, I was wondering how I was going to make it work. Then I started piecing some other blue greens and yellows in and it’s perfect! I love it!

GatorQuilt-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

I wish I had used some of the animal fabric from my other ‘gator quilt on the back of this one, but I was nervous about running out, so I didn’t! I love a fun pieced back!

GatorQuilt-Gator-ImFeelinCrafty

I did make a few changes to the pattern after this. Mostly in the piecing, but also in the teeth! My very first tester suggested more teeth, so I made more! They are hard to see here, but there are only 3 white teeth. I do like them better with more, but you can alter the pattern for as many teeth as you’d like!

GatorQuilt-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

And for the giveaway! I’ll give away 2 patterns to 2 readers!  I know, usually you do that at the beginning of the blog hop… I had intended to do it with the testers pictures post I did on Friday. But if you follow me on Instagram, you know our pup was viciously attacked by a pit bull on our morning walk last week. And since then I’ve been a mess! So it took me a week to get the giveaway together! Ready?

Ready to WIN? You have Three ways to enter! And come back and leave a separate comment on this post for each entry!

1. Tell me what you’d make with the pattern! The whole quilt, a pillow, a bag? Leave one comment. (one entry)

Fabric-GiveawayDay-ImFeelinCrafty

This year I was on vacation when I realized it’s Giveaway Day, so we picked them online. I had just been chatting with friends about the lightening bugs. We don’t have them this far south in ‘Bama, but I always loved going to my grandmother’s house and catching lightening bugs! Then I was going through high school pictures and found a picture of my high school boyfriend coming out of my grandmother’s cellar. I couldn’t figure what he had been doing down there! I realized he was getting a jar to catch the lightening bugs in! Sooooooo…. When I saw the line with lightening bugs, I knew that was the one! And I had to throw in a couple of others to coordinate.

My lovely friend Monica, the owner of West Seattle Fabrics, has once again agreed to give away some fabulousness from her shop! The last giveaway, I soooo wished I could win my own giveaway. Well, it’s true again this year! She’s giving away a package of 5 coordinating fat quarters.

GADay-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

The Fat Quarter bundle consists of 2 pieces from Violet Craft’s Waterfront Park – Breeze collection, the hexi dots are called Reflection and the multi-colored is called Shattered. One fat quarter from the Michael Miller cotton couture solid line. One fat quarter from Joel Dewberry’s bungalow, the herringbone print. And lastly, the final fat quarter is the black gridded print from Timeless Treasure’s Sketch collection!!

GADay-Bundle1-ImFeelinCrafty

I went to the shop the other day to pick out the fabric bundle for this giveaway and I couldn’t decide. The first time I went to the shop I equated it to a candy shop. And for me it is. I can’t make a decision at this place or a candy shop! I want it all.

GADay-Bundle3-ImFeelinCrafty

Anyway… We were standing there chatting and I looked over my shoulder. Monica had these bolts together on the shelf and it was love at first sight! I knew I had to have them! Or at least have them to giveaway to one of you! (Yes, I’ll probably go back and get more for me! :) )

MyArtsi Review and Giveaway!

Not too long ago, I was contacted by MyArtsi about reviewing one of their products. And the kiddo and I said YES!

Plusheez-GotIt-ImFeelinCrafty

MyArtsi is company that creates fun, easy craft kits for girls ages 6-13. (Yes, girls, but boys can play along too!) The company is comprised of 3 unique brands; Stickeez, Plusheez, and Glitter Petz.

Plusheez-MyArtsi-ImFeelinCrafty

The Stickeez is a fun product that comes with something, like a clutch or scrapbook, and a whole bunch of stickers to decorate it with. The Glitter Petz is a little animal toy that is totally ready to be covered in the bling stickers that come with it. And then there are the Plusheez! The one we picked to check out ‘cuase we love stuffies around these parts!

Plusheez-GotIt2-ImFeelinCrafty

Now don’t be confused by the kiddos fake smile in this picture! After he picked the Bella the Owl, (there’s also a heart, butterfly, fox, everyday he was asking when it was going to be here. ‘Is it here yet? Did my owl come today? When is my owl going to be here?’ Luckily, for us both, they mailed it right away and it came within a couple of days! We just happened to be home sick the day the mailman brought it our door. And boy was this kid excited even though it doesn’t show it well in this picture!

Plusheez-Contents-ImFeelinCrafty

The Plusheez animals come with the stuffie doll, a poker tool and a bunch of little fabric pieces to add to the stuffie to make it your own!

Plusheez-LineItUp-ImFeelinCrafty

It super easy to put together. You line up the fabric piece with a little pre-cut hole.

Plusheez-Punch-ImFeelinCrafty

Then poke it in! That’s it!

Plusheez-HappyDance-ImFeelinCrafty

See the happy dance? He’s coming to life once I got it all out of the box!

Plusheez-Owl-ImFeelinCrafty

You can follow the suggested color locations, or make it your own! I was a little worried that if he didn’t stay with the right colors in the right places, he might run out of the little fabric pieces. But no worries, it comes with extras!

Plusheez-Working-ImFeelinCrafty

Plusheez-Excited-ImFeelinCrafty

But either way, whether you follow the colors or make it all your own, the kiddo loved it! He only had one request about how he’d change it… ‘The next one we get, needs to be a boys design.’ So I’m not sure if MyArtsi has any plans of crossing into craft toys for boys, but when they do, I know who their first costumer will be! He really did love it!

Plusheez-Done-ImFeelinCrafty

See? Check out this smile!

And the lovely friends at MyArtsi are also offering one to one of my readers! You can pick any one toy from any of the three lines! Cool! So if you’re kiddo is more into bling than stuffies, there’s something here for them too! And if you can’t wait for the giveaway the product lines are already on the shelves of Walmart, Jo Ann’s, Meijer, AC Moore, and more!

Ready to WIN? You have Three ways to enter! And come back and leave a separate comment on this post for each entry!

Everything Blue Blog Hop, a Tutorial and a Giveaway!

I’m so excited to be a part of Clothworks Everything Blue Blog Hop!

everything-blue-block-hop

We sell a few of their lines at the shop I work at, Stash, and I have fallen in love with their fabrics. Then when I found out they were a local Seattle company, I was even more in love!

EverythingBlue-End-ImFeelinCrafty

Then!!! I had the opportunity to participate in their Everything Blue Blog Hop to help spread the word about their new line and I was super excited! My new friend at Clothworks, Susie, who set this whole thing up even hand delivers the fabric to my house! Ends up we’re neighbors! How cool is that???

EverythingBlue-Fabric-ImFeelinCrafty

So here’s the deal! I was given about a 1/2 yard of the three fabrics above and was asked to make 1 block (or two). I had to use some of each of the fabrics and then you were allowed to add a little of either blue, red, white or cream. I knew I wanted to add a little red! So I did! A little bit of red from the Clothworks Everyday Organics solid line!

EverythingBlue-Block1-ImFeelinCrafty

My first block was a little abstract something!

EverythingBlue-Block1-RedDtl-ImFeelinCrafty

EverythingBlue-Block1-Dtl-ImFeelinCrafty

I added a little red stitching around the blocks of color.

EverythingBlue-Block2-ImFeelinCrafty

And my second block was what I call a ‘Rose Block’, but I’m not sure that’s really what it’s called! I’ve also seen it called a Flip and Stitch block. This is the one I knew I wanted to do as soon as I saw the fabric. I’ve loved the block for a while, but when I saw the fabrics had a floral print to some of them, I knew I had to try this one!

EverythingBlue-Block2-dtl-ImFeelinCrafty

I love the red for the center. Or should I say the ‘off center.’

And for the tutorial… I looked for a tutorial for this block but couldn’t really find one (maybe since I don’t know it’s true name… I should find that out!), so I thought I’d show you how I made mine. Of course, I didn’t make the tutorial when I made the block… So just pretend that the fabrics in the tutorial are the same as the fabrics above! Most of them are Clothworks though…

BlockTutorial-Step1-Dtl-ImFeelinCrafty

It’s super easy and might not even need a tutorial, but hey! So start by gathering your fabrics and then cutting strips. I don’t use a straight line, because I don’t want any of my pieces to be the same size!

BlockTutorial-Step2-ImFeelinCrafty

Then, cut the center piece and start adding the second fabric around. I sew a piece, trim, sew a side, trim, sew a side, trim… Get the pattern here?

BlockTutorial-Step3-ImFeelinCrafty

Then I go to my second fabric and repeat. The second color is where I start trimming. I lay my ruler over the block and just start moving it around until I get the right corner angle that looks good to me.

BlockTutorial-Step4-ImFeelinCrafty

And then guess what…. More repeating! Add the third color, then trim. Next color, then trim. Repeat for as many colors as you’d like to use… And trim.
EverythingBlue-End-ImFeelinCrafty

And you’re done! Yea!

And the most exciting part… The Giveaway! Yea!

EverythingBlue-Giveaway-ImFeelinCrafty

Clothworks has graciously offered one reader 12 fat quarters of the new Everything Blue line with a little red and coral thrown in for good measure!
