Reach Out and Touch the Stars

I don’t often enter the I Heart Faces challenges, but this week the topic is hands and I just happened to have taken this picture of my son holding these stars. I love taking pictures of hands! Once I started thinking about this challenge, I kept thinking, so that picture, or that picture…. But this one I just took days ago and I love it. I hope you do too!

Halloween Link Love

Now that the birthday party has passed, it’s time to move on to another of my favorite things….  Decorating for Halloween!

Here are a few project ideas that I’m either going to do or have in some way inspired a project!!

1. Printables! I love printables, including this subway are one from eighteen25. We have a wall of small art pieces we’ve collected in our dining room and just last year I started switching the art out for holiday art for different seasons. I’ve got to get my Halloween pieces printed! Also, check out my pinterest page for a ton more!

2. For some reason this year, I’m into the spiders! Love these spider sacks from Modern Parents Messy Kids. I have another spider web idea in the works as well…..

3. I’m getting my letters and yarn this weekend to make this project from Jen Johnson’s guest post on eighteen25.

4. We need these pillows from Chapman Place on our front porch bench for sure!

5. Love love love these bats from Made via Country Living (for the template).

6. I’m totally inspired to make a paper cut project this year. This one by Suzy Taylor is just awesome!

7. I was only going to include one printable, but this is just adorable. I can’t wait to print this Halloween Paper Doll from Bablisme. and in case you’re wondering, yes, there is a girl version as well.

What Halloween crafts will you be making this year???

Say, Is it So? Can It Be?

Did I just obsess for weeks about a birthday party?

Why, yes, yes, It’s true!

Come along and I’ll you show you!

Your mother will not mind at all if you do…

(If you’ve read The Cat in the Hat lately, you’ll get that… If not, now’s a good time to sit down and remind yourself of the fun!) And yes, We all speak Cat in the Hat speak fluently around here now!

OK, I’ll admit another thing about myself. I’m totally obsessive. Maybe you’ve noticed, maybe not… But the last few weeks, I’ve been in total party mode. Planning for The Cat in the Hat’s visit to my son’s 3rd birthday!

We had a food, we had life-size Dr Seuss characters, we had Truffula Trees, we had hand-made fish for favors, we had games and we had Nick and Sally to greet guests as they came up the front steps!

I started planning this summer. My husband just rolls his eyes and tries to come up with ideas to make things easier for me. Not that I asked for it to be easier, mind you! But as the time rolled on and it got closer to the big day, he came around and was being just as creative and busy as I.

This is a just a little sneak peek. I have a week (or more) scheduled soon for more details and tutorials from the party! So stay tuned for that! Early November, I believe…

But here’s my other issue… My party was wonderful! it didn’t turn out quite like we had planned because the weather turned out to be a typical stereotypically Seattle dreary misty day so the outside party had to be moved inside… But I had grand plans! And they kinda looked like this party and this party and this party. Beautifully fantastic parties! I know it’s not actually about how my party looks. It’s about my son and creating a fantastic day for him. He doesn’t mind if the desserts are lined up just right or if the cake is designed to a tee (and mind you, you won’t see many pictures of my cake. That’s another story….). He cared if his friends were here and if they all got cake or not! But, I still kinda kick myself when my things don’t turn out like a million dollars! Why do I do this to myself??? I know I can do it. I want to do it. One day, I will do it!

On my son’s birthday he woke up and asked, ‘Where is everyone?’ So I told him where Daddy was, where Nannie was and of course I was right there. He said, ‘No, Where is everyone? Where are all my buddies?’ He was ready for a paaarrrttttie! And that same excitement shown through his little adorable eyes through out the party! That’s what matters!

Update- Unfortunately, the invites and food labels are no longer available for sale or sharing.

Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to Me…

It’s my birthday! WoooHoo!! Another year at 25…. (I wish)

Notice anything missing from this picture?? Like maybe the icing on the cupcake? Well, last week was my son’s birthday. 3 years ago I got the best birthday present ever… The cutest little guy ever! So the other night we sung happy birthday, he blew out the candles, we all ate our cupcakes… Well, most of us. My son ate the icing off of his and then wanted to do it again! So we started over with the candles, another verse of Happy Birthday and more blowing out of candles!

A funny story… A few years back on my birthday I was lamenting the new number that was rolling over when I got an email from my cousin. She said, ‘Can you believe we’re 36???’ (or 24, I forget! I think that’s another sign of old age creeping in) But I was so excited, because I was thinking I was actually a year older than that!! It made my day!

And for my birthday, another giveaway to thank you for sharing the day with me! This week I’ll be giving one reader their choice of one of my wallets.
