Summer Thyme- a Book Review with a Free Printable!

Remember not too long back when I did the book review for the e-book, Spring Thyme? Here? Well,  the lovely ladies at Bittersweet Walnut Grove are at it again!

Another very fun e-book! This one is, you guessed it, Summer Thyme! And like the last one, it’s full of recipes, craft projects and more family memories! The main difference is that the last one was all about strawberries and this one is all about lemons!

I love reading about their family and growing up! Their childhood is so different from mine and I love reading about it. Like their stories of clothes drying on the line. We never did that! And it sounds like a lot of fun! You’ll have to read their funny stories!

Like I mentioned last time, the series of e-books brings the seasons to you through hands on experiences with the seasons bounty! And while we were connecting with the bright and cheery lemons that just look like summer, we found out that Max loves lemons in other things, but not on their own!

When I do reviews, I like to actually try what I’m reviewing. So, as hard as it was, we finally decided to try the lemonade shake ups, lemon pound cake and the lemon glaze. The kiddo and I had a great time making the lemonade and squeezing the fresh lemon juice out of the lemons!

We made it and let it chill in the fridge and, mmmmm, fresh lemon juice! And check out the adorable little butterfly straws! Yep, from the book! Not only is the book full of fantastic recipes, there are some great printables, too!

Speaking of printables, we have one to share with you! The jar lids are what I used for the lemonade tag and then I printed it at half size for the mini cupcake toppers (below). You can get your printable here!

And trust me, it’s not all food and drink recipes! There’s also a recipe for mosquito repellent. I SOOOO need to try that one. I need to gather the ingredients before we go camping next time! And, yes, I mentioned craft projects, too.  I love this lemon applique tea towel! It would be fantastic in my kitchen. Another one I need to try!

Love the pound cake and the lemon glaze recipes! And turning them into mini cupcakes makes it even more enjoyable to sit back and enjoy the book!

You can get your copy, either the kindle edition or paperback, at Amazon. It’s great! Seriously! Such a fun summer read. The only thing is… You won’t want to just read it. You’re going to want to try the projects. So if you’re looking for a craft and recipe book that you only want to look at, this one isn’t for you. If you’re looking for one that you’ll want to try out right away… This is it!

And be sure to follow the ladies on Facebook!

Another do Good Stitches Quilt!

Our Nurture group is moving along and we’ve got another quilt under our belt. This one is thanks to Kat and Cat Quilts!

For the block, Kat introduced us to a super easy and fun quilt block! It’s basically a square in a square in a square. I love the technique though because it’s a tutorial that you can make bigger or smaller and end up with as many squares as you want.\\

The colors she choose were white, light blue, a darker teally blue, brown, a burgundy reddish color and a green. Each block needed a white, polka dot and a solid. I ended up using some from my stash in a dark teal blueish color!

I just love seeing everyone’s ideas come together from all over the country. I love how close the final colors match her design inspiration colors.

The quilting detail is fantastic! I love how she was brave enough to quilt a big spiral on a bunch of squares! And I say brave, because I rarely venture off with my quilting in the opposite direction of what the blocks look like. SO this is going into my mental library to try to think outside of the box (HA! get it!?!) next time I do a boxy quilt pattern!

The back is cool too!

We have a couple more quilts in the works! I can’t wait to share them with you!

Surfer Slacks and a Giveaway

I’ve been loving using patterns from other bloggers I follow and it’s true for the Surfer Slacks by See Kate Sew!

This was another project I did while at the beach house! Fitting, huh!?! Surfer Slacks… Beach House… And what do you think about the fabric? I found it while I was at the beach and I couldn’t help myself! I loved it! And I thought it would be kinda funny to use fabric with surf boards on it for the surfer slacks!

The pattern was so easy to follow! There’s only a few pieces, actually. Or so it seems! The kiddo and I both love the big back pockets. I think he really likes to un-button them and run around listening to them click together!

Part of the pattern is the fun big cuffs. But as I was making them, the whole family veto’ed the cuffs. I already had them cut and everything. But everyone said no. So I went with the peer pressure.

The problem was, without the cuff, with the pants hemmed, they were a little short. Then the kid had a growth spurt. Yes, in one month, he GREW!

So I added the cuffs! Now they aren’t too short and have the cute cuffs!

Another favorite part is the waistband. It’s a knit waistband that covers the elastic. It just looks so comfy to me! There weren’t actually too many fabric shops around the beach, so I ended up finding a knit tank shirt that I cut up and turned into the waist!

I don’t know if the kiddo loves the pants or having his picture taken more! But I’m pretty sure he loves both!!

So what do you think? Like the pattern? Want to make it for your little guy? Well, tpday’s your day! Kate is offering one copy of the Aspen Ruffle Dress and a copy of the Surfer Slacks to one lucky reader!

Happy 4th of July!

We’ve been debating… camping, stay at home, camping? With all this debating, we didn’t get anything ready for our holiday day! Ahhh!
