Coming Soon!

Just checkin’ in! I’ve had this whole blog schedule written up for the first time in years, but then it hasn’t happened!!! I’ve been so busy and today I’m going camping…

ComingSoon

Here’s a sneak peek for ya! Tons of stuff being worked on, don’t you worry! Ok, maybe you should worry… Too many pies in the oven! What do you want to hear about first?

The Rose Skirt by Filles a Maman

I’ve been having fun sewing for my nieces! For an only child (me) I sure to have a bunch of nieces! Ok, they technically aren’t, but by love they are! I can’t wait to show you the adorable little Rose Skirt I made for one of my Florida girls!

RoseSkirt-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

I loved this little pattern and it was so easy! I mean like probably an hour easy!

RoseSkirt-Front-ImFeelinCrafty

I though it was cute when I saw it online, but then when I saw the pattern I got a bit scared… The pleats threw fear in my face! But I went ahead and decided to go for it. And boy was I wrong! Um… super simple!

RoseSkirt-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

And it seemed to be super comfy on the little lady as well! The knit I used is super soft on the inside! I forget know where I got the popsiclie fabric, which was also well received. The top and bottom bands were an old shirt.

RoseSkirt-Side-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern has instruction for both with pockets and without. I originally planned for pockets. Here’s the deal. Before we went on vacation I was working away and trying to deny that there was something wrong with my sewing machine. When I finally gave into the truth I stopped sewing. Then I decided to cut all my projects that I wanted to sew and I’d take the fabric with me. So for this one I cut it for without pockets just in case. But I also cut the pockets out too. But I had them the contrast color. Then when I set to putting it together, I didn’t think I’d like the pockets the contrast color so I left them out!

RoseSkirt-BeachFront-ImFeelinCrafty

The little lady had a good time in this skirt! We played super heros, went to the beach and made sand cupcakes and even taught her to fish in it! She was pretty good at the whole casting thing!!

RoseSkirt-BeachBack-ImFeelinCrafty

I loved seeing the skirt get worn and enjoyed! Now if we could only all go back to the beach together!

If you have a little girl and want an adorable skirt that is super easy to make… The Rose Skirt is your answer! It’s even adorable just hanging on the hanger! Thanks Mel for letting me try it out!

Sew-A-Bration of Womanhood!

I have loved getting to know the ladies over at Shaffer Sisters, so when they asked me to participate in their Sew-a-Bration of Womanhood series I was honored!

SewABration-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

The series is hosted by Shaffer Sisters and Call Ajaire and is all about women taking the time to sew for women, whether it’s making themselves something or something for some another woman, and the struggles that sometimes get in our way.

SewABration-Water1-ImFeelinCrafty

I know my biggest struggle in sewing for myself is myself! My weight has become a huge struggle for me over the last few years, so making something for my self and getting behind the camera or in front of a mirror isn’t something I get very ecited about! But I signed up to do this and I didn’t want to break my commitment.

SewABration-Pose-ImFeelinCrafty

One of the questions the ladies asked was, ‘What has been the biggest challenge with this project? And how did you over come it.’ My biggest challenge is taking the time for myself. I guess in a way all my sewing and blogging and photography is taking time for myself in that it’s all doing things I love. But I rarely make anything for me. Mostly because those darn mirrors…. For 2 years now I’ve been saying that I am going to take more time and sew for myself. And I haven’t done it. That is until I was asked to participate in this event! And how did I overcome it? I just did it! I had a deadline for someone else, and I just did it! Stop and do it!

BookCover
Not long ago I won a giveaway from Sew, Mama, Sew for two sewing books. Both were about making clothes for yourself without patterns. One of the books was DIY Couture: Create Your Own Fashion Collection. At first I thought it was kinda silly stuff. But then I started really looking at it and it’s AWESOME! I love it! SO the book has about 10 or so designs. But then each design is detailed a bit different in 6 or so different collections. Basically it gives you a bunch of different ideas of how to detail the basic design to what you want. I made the goddess dress which is 2 rectangles. That’s it!

SewABration-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

It’s a bit shorter than I planned. So I won’t be wearing it to work or anything. But it’s perfect for the beach or a day in the sun! The top part is a bit too narrow, so I want to redo that and make it a bit wider so it’s more comfortable for me to wear without worrying if any body parts are hanging free!!

SewABration-3-ImFeelinCrafty

But I did it! Finally after all these years of saying I’m going to sew clothes for myself, I finally made me something! And not even that. I made myself something. And I let my picture be taken wearing it. And I posted it. If I can do it, you can do it!

What have you been wanting to make for yourself? I’d love to know! And be sure to check out what everyone is making!

A Superhero Dog Cape

And not just any Superhero….

DogCape-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

Wonder Woman! Yes, as you know, I have a thing for the woman with the invisible plane!

DogCape-4-ImFeelinCrafty

This is actually a Christmas present that I never showed you. On my son’s Christmas List, there is a space to fill out for Santa to bring something to a friend. Last year the kiddo asked Santa to bring our dog, Miss Gilbert, a Wonder Woman cape. And that he did. Santa is good like that with handmade gifts.

DogCape-3-ImFeelinCrafty

So, I’ve studied the cape and I’ll tell you what I can about hoe he made it. It looks as though he downloaded a WW logo from online, like this one maybe. And then cut it out of felt. The yellow pieces are sewn onto the black and then black was sewn onto the red cape fabric.

DogCape-5-ImFeelinCrafty

We do have our own Elf on the Shelf, so I can only figure that he’s the one that measured Miss G for Santa and his helpers. They probably took measurements down her back and around her tummy. The cape goes about half way around her body or so. Then the strap that goes around her tummy and neck are both secured by Velcro.

DogCape-Walking-ImFeelinCrafty

I can’t find the pattern he used. (He must have kept it in case there are more requests for this year.) If your interested in the pattern let me know and I can probably recreate it. Actually I’m going to pretty soon, because she needs one for the rain!

DogCape-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

The little lady seems to not mind it too much. Or at all actually. As long as she can sniff everything on our walks, she doesn’t seem to care what she’s wearing! I’m thinking she needs a rain coat one, too!

I do love how Santa really keeps to the list that the kiddo at our house writes. And I know it’s special to the kiddo to open the handmade presents that he has requested!

Fabric-GiveawayDay-ImFeelinCrafty

This year I was on vacation when I realized it’s Giveaway Day, so we picked them online. I had just been chatting with friends about the lightening bugs. We don’t have them this far south in ‘Bama, but I always loved going to my grandmother’s house and catching lightening bugs! Then I was going through high school pictures and found a picture of my high school boyfriend coming out of my grandmother’s cellar. I couldn’t figure what he had been doing down there! I realized he was getting a jar to catch the lightening bugs in! Sooooooo…. When I saw the line with lightening bugs, I knew that was the one! And I had to throw in a couple of others to coordinate.

OK, yes, I posted this same image last year for Mother’s Day, but I love it so and it’s in theme with my last post, so I just had to say it again!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mother’s out there! We deserve it! Yes!

Wonder Woman Crown Tutorial

Remember back when I shared our Sculpey Crazy Crowns? When we made those crazy crowns, we also made a Wonder Woman crown!

WWCrown-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

Let me just give you a little background… I’ve always loved Wonder Woman! She was one of my favorites as a child. That little kid below is me, circa, maybe, 1978ish….

WWCrown-MeBefore-ImFeelinCrafty

I don’t feel so comfortable in a Wonder Woman costume (one day I will again…), so I thought a crown would be fun! Ok, honestly, I was just playing with the gold Sculpey and all I could see was a Wonder Woman crown! It’s ingrained in me, what can I say. When I think crown, I think gold Wonder Woman crown….

WWCrown-Me2-ImFeelinCrafty

Here’s how I made it.

WWCrown-Step1-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 1- This was made with one (1 oz) block of gold Sculpey and a little bit of red. Roll out the gold!

WWCrown-Step2-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 2: Flatten the gold. I made mine about 1/8″ thick.

WWCrown-Step3-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 3: Cut out the shape. I don’t have a template, but I have faith in you that you can wing it! The sides are about an inch wide and the whole thing is about 8 inches long.

WWCrown-Step4-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 4: Flatten your red to the same thickness of the gold and cut out a star.

WWCrown-Step5-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 5: Set the red star on top of the crown and trace the shape of the star. Then cut out the star outline from the crown.

WWCrown-Step6-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 6: Insert the red star into the crown. I know it looks a little rough, huh?

WWCrown-Step7a-ImFeelinCrafty

WWCrown-Step7b-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 7: Roll out the crown with just a bit of slight pressure. Eventually it will be nice and smooth!

WWCrown-Step8-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 8: Make a hole in each side.

WWCrown-Step9-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 9: Hold up the crown to your head to get the right curve. And try your best to hold the curve as you set it on the pan for cooking. It will move slightly, but I was able to keep the curve pretty close to the right one for my head. Then cook per directions.

WWCrown-Step10-ImFeelinCrafty

Step 10: Add elastic and you’re on your way to being Wonder Woman!

WWCrown-Me1-ImFeelinCrafty

You can wear it around the house just to remind your family of who you really are….  Oh, yeah! Now I just need to fit into my Wonder Woman suit and find that invisible plane I misplaced and I’m outta here!

Who’s your favorite Super Woman???

The Sew Fab Tour- Bowling Shirt

I think I have found my favorite new button up shirt pattern!

BowlingShirt-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

It’s so easy! Seriously! It’s the Bowling shirt Pattern by by Scientific Seamstress that is part of the Sew Fab Pattern Sale going on now through May 13th!

Sew Fab 600x300 blog image

Awesome sale by the way….

BowlingShirt-Front1-ImFeelinCrafty

I was asked to be a part of the pattern sale blog tour and of course I said yes! And was excited to be able to sew this shirt. I kinda avoid dress shirts, with the collar and all, but after Easter and my son loving getting dressed up, I knew I needed to step it up and make him a few more nice shirts.

BowlingShirt-Front3-ImFeelinCrafty

So I was looking through my stash for fabric and found this one my son and I picked out a year ago. Love it! And no, I didn’t pick it to match the bowling bowl. That was purely a happy accident.

BowlingShirt-Ball-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern is so easy to make. The instructions are super long, though. But want to know why??? She gives you about a million different styling options! Ok, maybe more like 5 or 6. I chose the one stripe down the front. (obviously…)

BowlingShirt-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

And I did the solid back. In the options there is an option to do a stripe across the back, but I just loved the fabric so I left it as just one piece of fabric.

BowlingShirt-Front2-ImFeelinCrafty

The instructions are long, like I said, but they are super easy. And very well illustrated for each step of the way. I almost didn’t even need the pictures though! And you get to skip a lot of pages, depending on how you want to do it, so you feel like you are moving right long super fast!

And it is super fast!

BowlingShirt-Front4-ImFeelinCrafty

For finsihing she gives a few options there as well. Your normal serged edges, etc, but also she gives you instructions on a lined version. I went unlined, the size a bit bigger, for the more casual then fitted look. I also added in some french seams where I could!

BowlingShirt-Snaps-ImFeelinCrafty

Now for the buttons…. I did mention it was a button up shirt and you may notice snaps again… Well, my machine was on the fritz, so it was doing my buttonholes worse then usual. (I got so frustrated with the machine, not the pattern, that I called the fix it shop mid shirt just to chat with them about it. I needed someone to talk to! ) So, I resorted to my old standby, the snap. But here’s tanother beauty to this pattern. It’s set up so button holes are the last thing you make. The button holes are done early, so in case you meess them up like I did you can go back and redo that one piece. Not the whole shirt!

BowlingShirt-End-ImFeelinCrafty
