A Memory Quilt Using the Complete Quilt Design Planner

Remember the Friendship Bracelet quilt that I finished not long ago? Well, originally I agreed to test Blair Stocker’s, AKA WiseCraft, pattern to make a memory quilt. Very quickly I realized that wasn’t going to work for that pattern.

MemoryQuilt-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

Then she asked me to test another pattern, The Complete Quilt Design Planner Pattern. I was one, very intrigued by the name, but also knew it would work well with my memory quilt idea!

MemoryQuilt-Pattern-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern is really not a pattern at all, but step by step guide to designing your own one of a kind quilt! It has layouts for 6 different sized quilts. It was really fun! My son and I laid out all the fabric we were going to use, grabbed some colored pencils and we both started designing!

MemoryQuilt-Tshirts-ImFeelinCrafty

A friend of mine from way back… Like Middle School I think? I was actually best friends with her younger sister for a while… Anyway, she asked me to take her sons clothes to make into a quilt. I ended up separating the piles and using mostly wovens on the front and the knit t-shirts on the back.

MemoryQuilt-Center-ImFeelinCrafty

I really loved this little center guy from a baby outfit! I also think it also tied together the colors from the other clothing pieces. Once I had it designed, I realized not all the pinks were the same, etc… So there was a bunch of laying out and picking up and laying out again to get it right!

MemoryQuilt-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

And the back is a t-shirt quilt. These t-shirt quilts take a long time. I didn’t want just a bunch of regular squares, so it took a bit, I mean a lot, longer to layout than I thought it would! I also added in a few colored blocks to fill in the spaces in between.

MemoryQuilt-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

This is a great pattern, especially for beginners. It also got me to try something new. I don’t think I’ve ever done a whole quilt out of the same size blocks before. It’s always fun to look at quilt design a little out of your design comfort zone and this is exactly was I experienced with this one.

You can see more examples of this quilt here.

AND… It’s the one thing that I actually finished this quarter! oops…

Friendship Bracelet Quilt

Another finish!

FriendshipBracelet-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

Yea! I have to say, I love the pattern, but wasn’t really excited about the quilt…. But the more I look at it, the more I like it!

FriendshipBracelet-FrontDetail-ImFeelinCrafty

A SMQG friend is also a quilt designer and author and all around pretty cool lady! She’s Blair Stocker, AKA WiseCraft. She asked for pattern testers fir her Friendship Bracelet Quilt and I was looking for an easy idea/pattern for a memory quilt, so I said YES! But then it ended up it wasn’t going to work well for my memory quilt, but I did have a jelly roll that would work quite nicely!

It’s a jelly roll that I’ve had for years and never used becuase the fabrics are exactly me so I haven’t used them. For years, did I mention that? I’ve gotten so used to only quilting with mostly solids, it’s been a little hard to embrace this one. But it’s growing on me!

FriendshipBracelet-Quilting-ImFeelinCrafty

The quilt went together very easily and quickly! I’ve seen the pattern in solids, and I think I’m just drawn more to solids. It’s a GREAT pattern for newbie’s! The directions are great and easy to follow.

It all went together so quickly. Until…. I started quilting! I’m pretty sure the quilting took way longer than all the rest of the quilt construction! I really want to start keeping track of how many hours a quilt takes. Does anyone else to this?

I did the quilting with a freehand square spiral. I also did a big one on the bottom, until it ran out of quilt nad then I moved and did two smaller square spirals on the top!

FriendshipBracelet-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

I had a couple of strips left over so I sewed them together to start the back layout. And the rest just evolved with the fabrics I had on had that coordinated!

FriendshipBracelet-BackDetail-ImFeelinCrafty

FriendshipBracelet-Label-ImFeelinCrafty

And I get to use another one of my labels! Since they are dated, I can only make 48 more this year!

FriendshipBracelet-Joe-ImFeelinCrafty

A little behind the scenes moment… My lovely husband of 10 years today (the 20th) is nice enough to hold most of my quilts. (He does grumble a little bit.) shhh…. But he does help!

FriendshipBracelet-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

The more I look at it the more the contrast between the stripes show and that makes me love it more!

Rainy Days and Mondays Bag Pattern Review

I was so excited to get to test The Littlest Thistle’s latest pattern, the Rainy Days and Mondays Bag!

RainyDayBag-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

I’ve always been intrigues with bags like this! How do you sew in the lining?? I’ve never known and I’ve always been intimated… But now I know and it’s not hard at all!

RainyDayBag-Pattern-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern is now available in her shop and it’s really such an easy sew. It’s not the quickest sew, but it’s a good one and well worth the time you put into it! The pattern also has great tips on sewing with laminated fabrics. I choose to use vinyl instead, though.

RainyDayBag-Top-ImFeelinCrafty

This. zipper. This zipper top has spooked me for years! ONly to realize that it’s not hard at all! Hello! You’ve got to try it….

RainyDayBag-Side-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern also has all sorts of fancy details that help add ot hte very professional finished look. I love the adjustable straps she likes ot include in her patterns. Like this one and the Mini Messenger bag that I tested for her.

RainyDayBag-Inside-ImFeelinCrafty

RainyDayBag-Zipper-ImFeelinCrafty

And I love the inside fabric! I used to make bags and I always loved making the inside a bright contrast to the outside. I was looking through my stash and kept coming back to yellows and greys, until I spotted this hot pink print! The instructions for the inside pocket were perfectly simple! Oh, yeah!

RainyDayBag-Bottom-ImFeelinCrafty

Have you ever put feet on a bag? I haven’t! Until now!

RainyDayBag-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

You should be sure to check out the other bag testers on her blog. I love being a tester especially for things for me. I’m so bad at sewing for myself and this makes me sew for me by a certain date! I’ve already been using the bag for a camera bag. I want to make a few additions for the camera, but it’s just the right size!

Pikachu!

I’m not much up on the whole Pokemon thing. The kiddo isn’t into that whole thing yet. But…

Pikachu-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

One of his buddies up the street is! And she just had a Pokemon birthday party. So of course I needed a birthday present. I know our friend loves stuffies. I know she loves Pokemon and her favorite character is Pikachu. And I’ve been following along with ikat bag‘s Menagerie Stuffie Pattern.

Menagerie Pattern

Have you seen it? I was waiting everyday to see what she would come up with next! Using the same basic pattern she came up with a frog, a dragon, a shark, and my favorite, the squid! And many more! 17 actually. Fantastic! It’s so cool. The pattern is not out yet, but she did participate in Sew Mama Sew’s 6 Weeks of Love for Softies and gave us a sneak peek at the pattern with the Raccoon Pattern.

Pikachu-Smile-ImFeelinCrafty

So I jumped! Stuffie + Pikachu + Menagerie Raccoon Pattern = AWESOME Birthday Present! The pattern was perfect for my project! It’s so simple!

Pikachu-Materials-ImFeelinCrafty

I got to use two new materials that I have never used before! The plastic eyes and the stuffing beads. I ordered the beads not long ago to use in the lap desk, but the bag ended up being tiny. These are like little beads of plastic, not the tiny polyfill microbeads that fly around. I was going ot return them, but it cost more ot return them so I figured I’d use them sooner or later. Yep!! Good call!

Pikachu-Face-ImFeelinCrafty

The obvious changes from the raccoon are the ears and the tail. I did add heavy interfacing in the ears to help them stay straight. I also deleted the nose and instead hand embroidered it.

I debated adding the open pink mouth.  After I started all the pieces, I was sewing on the cheeks and was about to sew on the open mouth when I saw this picture. Totally inspired the closed mouth. So sweet looking!

Pikachu-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

Pikachu-BackDtl-ImFeelinCrafty

And I moved the stripes from the tail to the back! For the cheeks and the back I used high quality wool felt, instead of a fleece. But for the tail I did use a little bit of brown fleece. It was much easier to pull through the tail than the felt would have been. I think if I made it again, I would add one piece across the back instead of 4 little pieces. You can download the pieces I added here. There are no seam allowances included in my pieces.

Pikachu-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

I think it turned out freakin’ adorable! I’m in love with it! And I know the birthday girl was pretty happy with him too! There are such cute critters in the whole Pokemon thing, that  I almost want to try to make a whole series of them! What would you make with her pattern?

The Mini Messenger Bag

I got to test a pattern for Katy of The Littlest Thistle! I’ve seen her make some fun bags so I was excited ot try this one.

MiniMessenger-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

This one is the Mini Messenger Bag. I’ve made messenger bags before, but I was interested in seeing what made her’s different from the others. One is the size. It’s mini! It is exactly the right size for a kiddo, for sure.

Mini Messenger Bag Pattern Cover

I wanted to make it for my son, but he didn’t want one. At least not until he saw mine…. The picture on the cover is a little girlie and I think he was blinded by the floral fabric. Because when he saw mine in person, even though it’s a little girlie though, he wanted mine! But I said no! And I used it the other day and it’s great!

MiniMessenger-OutsidePocket1-ImFeelinCrafty

The second piece about it that was new to me was the insides! The pattern calls for some fusible interfacing that I had never actually used before. A woven interfacing, which I also learned is fantastic for clothing. And a fusible fleece. I’ve seen this before, but typically skip it since it isn’t in my sewing room… This time I bought it and the two interfacings really do give the bag a big sturdy shape!

MiniMessenger-Strap-ImFeelinCrafty

Lastly, for new ot me sewing, I have never done an adjustable strap! It seems like I would have with all the hundreds of purses I’ve made in my time (I used to sell purses…). But no! Super easy!

MiniMessenger-InsidePocket-ImFeelinCrafty

I love a purse with an inside pocket! And it has one included in the pattern! Next time I might put one on each side.

MiniMessenger-OutsidePocket-ImFeelinCrafty

The outside pocket is perfect for my phone! I made it the contrasting color, but in hindsight, I think I’d stick with either the same color or at least not as contrasting because part of the pocket shows under the flap. which I didn’t realize in the process!

MiniMessenger-Doodles-ImFeelinCrafty

And its’ a great size for a stuffie! I couldn’t resist, since this guy looked so cute in it! I actually didn’t carry Mt. Doodles around in it. I used it for carrying books and I really loved how the strap felt on my shoulder. I have a problem with bags falling off my shoulder, but this one didn’t!

MiniMessenger-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

Now to get your own pattern! You can purchase the pattern here at Katy’s shop. To celebrate the launch of her new pattern she’s offering 25% off ALL the patterns in her shop! Hurry over, the discount is available until April 10th with the code HOPPYEASTER15.

Stylish Slippers!

I’m still here! I got a little off track with blogging with some things going on in my world that actually put blogging on the back burner. But I’m back!

Slippers-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

And I’m back with a super fun project! I recently got to test my bloggin’ buddy’s, Mel from Filles a Maman, newest pattern for some super warm slippers!  The pattern is awesome since it’s one pattern for the whole family!

Slippers-SideMain-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern is intended for both knit and fleece. For mine I used fleece on the outside and knit on the inside. The funny thing was I had this big bag of scraps that I was about to give away, but I had to grab it and pull it back downstairs to get the fleece scraps to make the slippers! See, I just kept saying I don’t need these scraps, but as soon as I go to get rid of them, I need them!  Anyway….

Slippers-Topside-ImFeelinCrafty

And I made them for me! I’m glad I did, but Mel asked me to make my size. I still want to make some for the kiddo, too. And maybe even Dad! Maybe even the Grandparents…. So many options!

Slippers-Top-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern is a very quick sew. I think it took about 1.5 hours, from start to finish! The pattern is very well written and the diagrams make it super easy to follow!

Slippers-Bottom-ImFeelinCrafty

The bottom calls for the non slip fabric that you put in the foot of pj’s. You can get this at Joann’s, or she tells you a secret of how to make it yourself! Well, I don’t know if it’s really a secret or not… Puffy paint!

full_5481_122616_StylishSlippers_1

And best of all…. It’s only $5.95 on Craftsy for only a day or so more! So buy it now!

The Breeze Top for Women!

Remember a while back when I made the adorable breeze top for my niece? (If not, check it out!)

BreezeTop-Front2-ImFeelinCrafty

Well, all the testers wanted it for themselves too! So what did Shannon, the designer of all the Peaches and Peanuts patterns, do??? She made it for women! Oh, yea!

BreezeTop-Grn-Side-ImFeelinCrafty

And I love it! It’s such an easy sew! The pattern is designed for knits, but I want to try it in a woven… Some other testers did and it’s still cute! It’s the perfect top for summer! It has the two pieces on the front that I love in the color block look I did it in.

BreezeTop-Grn-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

And the back is a racer back! I love that it has a little something different in the back.

BreezeTop-Grn-Front2-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern is includes sizes XS to 2XL, so it’s sized for everyone’s wardrobe! Like I said it’s an easy sew! The instructions were tested with the girl’s version and now with the women’s pattern, so you know it has to be good.

Breeze-Top-WOMEN-Pattern-Cover-540x700

And probably one of the best things for you… It’s on sale! Thru Saturday, August 23rd, the pattern is only available directly from Shannon and it only $4.77! WHAT??? $4.77! Seriously, you need to buy it now at that steal!  After the 23rd, the price goes up to $7.95 (which is still very reasonable!) And check out those two adorable ladies on the pattern cover! Yep!

BreezeTop-Front-ImFeelinCrafty

I’ve worn mine ALOT! Even if the fabric is just a ‘muslin’ knit, it’s comfy and looks nice. So it’s been out and about in the real world!
