My Halloween Quilt! with a paper pieced pattern download

I know, most everyone has moved onto Christmas, but I’m still posting about Halloween!

I started this about this time last year. I had a plan. I was going to do one block each month… I was also going to make one Halloween and one Christmas placemat each month. Let’s just say NONE of those things happened! Oops!

I didn’t quite finish in time for Halloween, but I finished 3 days later. So I’m calling that a win!

I did intend for the stripe to go from top to bottom, not side to side… But I realized I didn’t have enough of the green fabric, so I switched gears mid stream. I actually really like having the stripe of pieced blocks along the bottom.

Our Halloween guests seem to like it as well! They can still scare, but show off the stripe! ha! Who doesn’t love seeing monsters and skeletons cuddling under a quilt on the porch bench??? So sweet!

For this quilt I did paper piece the stripe. That’s how I got such sharp points! Look at those points! I love it! You can download the quilt block here. It is a 12×18 page, so most home printers won’t print it, but your neighborhood office supply store will be able to. The block makes a 10″ square.

HalloweenQuilt-Binding-ImFeelinCrafty

How do you do binding? I sew mine onto the top and then iron it over to the back and hand stitch it to the back. I have not mastered the machine binding! Nope! And I love the time away from the machine to do a little hand stitching anyway!

And the back. I made a few extra blocks with the scraps to put on the back. Then I just pieced all my scraps for as much of the back as I could. Then I just started adding larger pieces to make up the difference.

Man, did this quilt almost give me a heart attack??? I was in the process of quilting it. I quilt on the dining room table. We had family friends over for dinner, so I just through my quilt and the machine in my son’s (also known at Lulu’s room, our 3 year old great pyrenees mix) room. Well, the pup got super excited about our guests, so we put her in ‘her room’ to calm down… When we go in the room, she has chewed up the quilt. I stifled my scream! we did still have guests… But luckily, she had just chewed the excess you add to the batting and back! So it was totally ok, but, man, did it scare me! And no, she didn’t get sick at all!

My token label picture that I take for each quilt!

I’m so excited to have it finished! And even though I have a list of more Halloween projects to do, I’m also excited to move on to handmade Christmas presents! What you working on after Halloween? Did you sew anything for Halloween?

Bats and Boos! Quilt Blocks-Now in Etsy Shop

Remember these pillows? They are made with my Bat Quilt Block and my Ghost Quilt Block.  I so love getting them out every year when Halloween rolls around!

But this year, I started getting emails about the link to them. I was super excited to find that Aurifil had featured my bat pillows on their FB page and their blog, with their Five for Friday- Halloween Pillows!! Featured along with some other very cool patterns is super exciting!

I really love the paper pieced Coffin Pillow by Jeni Baker!

What wasn’t exciting is finding out that the patterns were no longer on my Craftsy site, which is now Bluprint. I’m sure a lot of you know that Bluprint bought out/took over Craftsy and a lot of not so good changes took place. They closed down a lot of shops. And in turn, a lot of other shops closed because of the changes. I somehow received a letter that my shop had made the cut and it would be staying. I understood that to mean it was staying as is. I can’t find the email now to reread exactly what they said. ANYWAY… I have been meaning to go back and take it down, because I wasn’t happy with the changes either. But as you can tell, life has gotten in the way of my blog and my etsy shop, etc… (Working full time really cuts into the creative time around here!) Well, it turns out that Bluprint removed all the patterns that I had for sale in the shop and never notified me that they had done this! I had noticed that I wasn’t getting many sales, but, um, I had no idea they were gone! The only pattern that remains is my Inside Out Pineapple block.

So the good news is that the patterns are moving to my Etsy Shop!

Now comes the debate about one or two Etsy shops! Do I mix quilt patterns in with Birthday Party Supplies? Or separate them into two shops? So many decisions! Due to timing on this one, they are currently being sold with party supplies… I hope you don’t mind!

The Bat Block started way back in 2014 with my Halloween Quilt!

Then it evolved into patchwork pillows! Notice all those PRINT fabrics I used!

And then came the Ghost pattern in a pillow! Check it out and see how I made it glow in the dark!

I hope you enjoy the patterns! And be sure tag them #thebatblock and #theghostblock and tag me too! @imfeelincrafty I can’t wait to see what you make! Happy Halloween!
