My Halloween Quilt! with a paper pieced pattern download

I know, most everyone has moved onto Christmas, but I’m still posting about Halloween!

I started this about this time last year. I had a plan. I was going to do one block each month… I was also going to make one Halloween and one Christmas placemat each month. Let’s just say NONE of those things happened! Oops!

HalloweenQuilt-Skeleton-ImFeelinCrafty

I didn’t quite finish in time for Halloween, but I finished 3 days later. So I’m calling that a win!

HalloweenQuilt-Stripe-ImFeelinCrafty

I did intend for the stripe to go from top to bottom, not side to side… But I realized I didn’t have enough of the green fabric, so I switched gears mid stream. I actually really like having the stripe of pieced blocks along the bottom.

HalloweenQuilt-Cuddles-ImFeelinCrafty

Our Halloween guests seem to like it as well! They can still scare, but show off the stripe! ha! Who doesn’t love seeing monsters and skeletons cuddling under a quilt on the porch bench??? So sweet!

HalloweenQuilt-Detail1-ImFeelinCrafty

For this quilt I did paper piece the stripe. That’s how I got such sharp points! Look at those points! I love it! You can download the quilt block here. It is a 12×18 page, so most home printers won’t print it, but your neighborhood office supply store will be able to. The block makes a 10″ square.

HalloweenQuilt-Binding-ImFeelinCrafty

How do you do binding? I sew mine onto the top and then iron it over to the back and hand stitch it to the back. I have not mastered the machine binding! Nope! And I love the time away from the machine to do a little hand stitching anyway!

And the back. I made a few extra blocks with the scraps to put on the back. Then I just pieced all my scraps for as much of the back as I could. Then I just started adding larger pieces to make up the difference.

HalloweenQuilt-Chewed-ImFeelinCrafty

Man, did this quilt almost give me a heart attack??? I was in the process of quilting it. I quilt on the dining room table. We had family friends over for dinner, so I just through my quilt and the machine in my son’s (also known at Lulu’s room, our 3 year old great pyrenees mix) room. Well, the pup got super excited about our guests, so we put her in ‘her room’ to calm down… When we go in the room, she has chewed up the quilt. I stifled my scream! we did still have guests… But luckily, she had just chewed the excess you add to the batting and back! So it was totally ok, but, man, did it scare me! And no, she didn’t get sick at all!

HalloweenQuilt-Label-ImFeelinCrafty

My token label picture that I take for each quilt!

HalloweenQuilt-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

I’m so excited to have it finished! And even though I have a list of more Halloween projects to do, I’m also excited to move on to handmade Christmas presents! What you working on after Halloween? Did you sew anything for Halloween?

A Halloween Pillow

Well, I had started a Halloween quilt back in January, I think… Despite the 10 months, I didn’t get it done….

No quilt, but I did get a pillow done! And I love it! I keep looking at it admiringly as I walk by the couch!

HalloweenPillow-Inside-ImFeelinCrafty

I also like seeing it with the other pillows I’ve made over the years. I love seeing the different styles and fabrics I’m into over the years!

Halloween-Fabric-ImFeelinCrafty

For the pillow, I’m using a lot of the fabrics that I’m using my quilt. Or a different color way… Most of the fabrics are from the Cotton and Steel collections. I LOVE their holiday lines! LOVE them! Was this the best fabric to use for tiny piecing? I don’t know, really!

HalloweenPillow-Class-ImFeelinCrafty

Last month I took a paper piecing class with Giuseppe Ribaudo, aka Guicy Guice. I’m not sure why I did, since I’m pretty well versed in paper piecing. Honestly, when I signed up, I thought it was a small piecing class, not paper piecing. It never dawned on me that his small piecing was paper piecing! Ha! Anyway, I’m glad I did! He shared his Mini patterns with us and I picked Courthouse Step block. I almost didn’t go because I had so much birthday party stuff going on and the whole paper piecing thing. But I’m glad I did! he was super nice and a lot of fun. And I loved seeing what everyone else made from the patterns! And I love my block!

HalloweenPillow-Dlt-ImFeelinCrafty

Guicy Guice centers a lot of his minis in a neutral background so I thought this neon bat fabric would be great. And I did some matchstick quilting. I love doing matchstick quilting on small projects. One day I’ll do it on a larger project. maybe… ha!

HalloweenPillow-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

I loved this fabric so much that I bought it in two color ways!

HalloweenPillow-Zipper-ImFeelinCrafty

And if you know my pillows, I always do envelope backs because I’m kinda lazy that way… But this time I decided to put a zipper in it. I used to always put zippers in pillows. Especially when I was selling pillows. If I can do it when I’m selling them to other people,, why can’t I do it for myself? I did use Sew Katie Did’s tutorial to remind myself how to do it. Its’ not hard at all, but I used to be better at hiding the zipper than I did on this one. Luckily the fabric matches it!

My Halloween Quilt and A New Quilt Pattern

Halloween is so close and I”m sitting here on the computer instead of sewing! What??? But I’m so excited to share my Halloween Quilt!

HalloweenQuilt-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

I bought this panel fabric years ago! I love it! I love the whole line by Sherri Berry. There are actually a few lines that use these characters, Trick or Treat Street, The Costume Club  and the Costume Clubhouse. Fortunately, I don’t know if any of these are still being made! Sorry!

HalloweenQuilt-SpiderWeb-ImFeelinCrafty

The panel has this spider web dotted in behind the tree and that is what inspired my quilting. I started in the center and just kept going around and around and around!

HalloweenQuilt-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

As much as I love the panel and the front, I’m totally in love with the back, too! Next to the panel were these 5 masks. I think you can probably cut them out and make real masks, but I decided not to do that. They are perfect for the back!

HalloweenQuilt-Snippets-ImFeelinCrafty

HalloweenQuilt-SnippetsCat-ImFeelinCrafty

You might have noticed the little pieces pieced in… Another print in the series is this patchwork like fabric with these adorable little images. I decided to cut them out and piece them in throughout. There’s the scaredy cat on the front and the rest are on the back.  Which one’s your favorite? I think my favorite is the super-stitches one!

HalloweenQuilt-Binding-ImFeelinCrafty

And I used yet another print from the series for the binding. You might be able to make out what it is, but just in case, it’s the cute little ghost repeated over and over with fun colorful outlines.

HalloweenQuilt-Bats-ImFeelinCrafty

Part of the reason I stalled for so long was that I’m not really a panel person. I knew I wanted to use the whole panel, but I needed to add something. Then the bat thing came to me! You know my love for paper piecing and origami inspired animals… So I made a bat pattern!

HalloweenQuilt-3Bats-ImFeelinCrafty

And I couldn’t add just 1! I also hand embroidered the little eyes on them inspired by the shape of the panel character eyes.

BatBlock-Cover-ImFeelinCrafty

And you can get the pattern in my etsy shop, here! This isn’t the pattern for the whole quilt. Just the bat!

HalloweenQuilt-BatFolded-ImFeelinCrafty

I’m making some pillows now! I wonder if I”ll finish them before Halloween??? What would you make the Bat Block?

HalloweenQuilt-SpookyBW-ImFeelinCrafty

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Is it spookier in black and white??

HalloweenQuilt-Main2-ImFeelinCrafty

Spiders, Bats, Cats, Ghosts, Masks, Costumes! It’s Halloween! I’m keeping this one, which is a rare thing at this Bat Cave!
