Inside Out Pineapple Bed Runner

And you guessed it, another quilt!

Another one to mark off my Finish Along to do list! This one I am in love with, but for some reason wasn’t able to photograph it as wonderful as it really is!

My stepmother told me she wanted a quilt made with my Inside Out Pineapple quilt pattern. I love the pattern, of course. You’d hope I would since I made it… But it’s so time consuming! So I was contemplating how long did she really want to wait on this project! And luckily before I asked that question, she clarified that she only wanted a bed runner. Oh, yes! I can do that without taking forever!

A bed runner… It does look pretty, but I’m still curious about why… You’ll notice I don’t make many mini quilts. A couple of reasons… I don’t have wall space to hang them. And If you aren’t hanging them on the wall, what is the point of them? They don’t really serve a purpose. People make awesome mini’s and I love seeing other peoples minis, but for some reason when I quilt, I think it needs to be able to be used…  I don’t know why I think this way… So I’m still kinda miffed at the bed runner concept. But it turned out great!

Her other request was for it to coordinate with the cross stitch pillow I made her a couple of Christmas’s ago. So that narrowed down the colors! And you know me and my white backgrounds! I was trying to figure out how to incorporate the white background and still coordinate with the pillow. Then my friend Debbie asked where the white was in the pillow! Ummmm…. there isn’t any. So what was I doing. Then I tried it with the grey background and, OH YES!

RunnerQuilt-GreenBlock-ImFeelinCrafty

The grey is my favorite staple, Sprinkle by Cotton and Steel! Love it!

Besides the grey, I used a combination of yellow, green and teal solids and prints. Prints! Another quilting concept that I don’t use much! Yes, it still kinda reads as a solid, but I did branch out and use prints with my solids!

Throwin’ in my label picture!

And here it is in it’s new home! It looks quite nice and does coordinate with the pillow. My step mother was very excited and put it on the bed as soon as she got home from visiting us! I’m glad to know it was well received and will be well loved!

This was a great project to use the Inside Out Pineapple Pattern for! I got really quick at making it, but I also didn’t get burned out with having to make too many!

June do Good Stitches Quilt

This quilt was started as my month as the quilter back in June! So I’ll start be apologizing to the group for taking so long to finish it!

JuneDoGood-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

I was honored when a group member asked if I’d pick my Inside Out Pineapple block for my month! So of course I said yes. I totally wanted to see it as a finished quilt!

JuneDoGood-FOldedMain-ImFeelinCrafty

All the quilts we do for the Nurture Circle of do.Good Stitches are awesome, but most of them are not this time consuming! I’m worried I might have scared a few out of the group with this quilt! I hope not…

I asked the group to make two blocks each and to use a contrasting color between the center and the ‘rings.’ Most everyone did. A few forgot and different tones of the same color. And you know what…. I love it! Of course I wasn’t going to ask them to redo it. I actually love the mix. It works and makes the quilt even more interesting!

JuneDoGood-Detail-ImFeelinCrafty

I love the pattern and it seems to be very popular! But it’s time consuming. I really want to make one for me, since this one is going to away to Covered In Love. Maybe a block of the month is in my future! It’s a paper piecing pattern that is basically four blocks in one. It’s not hard, it just takes a little while!

JuneDoGood-FOlded-ImFeelinCrafty

I debated on the binding. I love making bindings out of multiple fabrics, but for this one I finally decided on a yellow. I didn’t want it to take away from the blocks and to me, the yellow became a very sweet complement!

JuneDoGood-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

For the back I considered enlarging the block for a super huge block. Then decided to just mimic the center and one white ‘ring’ around it! I did decide to keep it with the solids on the back.

JuneDoGood-BackDetail-ImFeelinCrafty

One reason it took so long to get this one done was the quilting…. I had this great idea that I wanted to go a circular pattern, but n=most of the summer and into the fall I had a loaner machine and I wasn’t liking the circular stitching. I got my machine back and was all about the circle… Until I started…. And I didn’t like it. At all. So i picked it all out and went with the lines of the block and stitched in the ditch. Much happier!

One of my favorite things about the quilt is that one block with the light, light yellow and the hot pink center! The contrast with the other blocks is great!

Thanks to all the ladies who participated in this one!

And I can finally cross this off my Finish A Long list!

The Inside Out Pineapple- Out and About!

Not long ago I was contacted by the Gulf States Quilting Guild contacted me for permission to use my Inside Out Pineapple block to demo paper piecing at one of their meetings! Honored, I, of course, agreed!

InsideOutPineapple-GCQG-1-ImFeelinCrafty

Look how happy she looks with that awesome block!!

InsideOutPineapple-GCQG-2-ImFeelinCrafty

I was so excited to see the pictures from their meeting, that I asked to share them here. I am so happy to see smiling faces with their blocks! But…. I was told that they weren’t all smiling the whole way through! Some had experience with paper piecing, others did not. And paper piecing does take some getting used to! But at least they were happy in the end!

InsideOutPineapple-GCQG-Block-ImFeelinCrafty

You know me, I do mostly solids… So it was really cool to see the block all put together with prints. It looks great both ways!

InsideOutPineapple-Cover-ImFeelinCrafty

I had no idea how much response I would get from this block! It’s been crazy! If only I had charged a dollar for the pattern, I’d be rich! Just kidding! kinda…. I love it, but just am floored by how much everyone else does too! You can download the pattern here. I have a quilt coming up using this pattern that I can’t wait to finish and share!

Inside Out Pineapple Quilt Block- Free Pattern!

I made a new quilt block! Now, I’m not saying I’m the first one ever…. But I will also say I searched and searched to find this block and I couldn’t find it! So I made my own!

InsideOutPineapple-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

This block is for one of the quilts I’m working on this year! Our quilt guild, The Seattle Modern Quilt Guild, is doing another Block of the Month quilt this year. I’ve never done a medallion quilt. Honestly, it’s never crossed my mind. But my friend Allison, stepped up to organize the BOM this year and the medallion idea was what she came up with and I’m actually excited about it!

InsideOutPineapple-Front-ImFeelinCrafty

The idea for the center was to use a block from from our 2014 BOM suggestions. Then each month after there will be a new border. I decided to do the pineapple block. I was totally inspired by this Pique Pineapples with a Pinch of Pizzazz quilt by Nancy J. Didonato. But when I really looked at it and all the pineapple blocks out there, the square in the middle is little and the small part of the ‘pineapple’ is in the center. I wanted the block to be just the opposite!

InsideOutPineapple-Pattern-ImFeelinCrafty

So I made a pattern! And this one will be listed on my Craftsy site for free! Or you can get it here.

InsideOutPineapple-Cover-ImFeelinCrafty

What would you make with this pattern? Would you make it more scrappy? The quilt I’m making is obviously going to be primarily green and white. I asked my husband what color he wanted. He said blue, but I said no since I’m already making him a blue and white quilt. Then he suggested orange. I thought ok, until I got to my sewing room and I wasn’t really excited about my oranges…. So it’s green and white! I also realized I am very much a solids kinda girl. As much as I love prints… I always seem to end up quilting with mostly solids!

InsideOutPineapple-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

I also had the center square dark green to start with. Then I had to take two blocks apart and switch out the green for the more yellow green and I think it adds a nice punch for the center of the quilt!
