Preschool Auction! I Love a Party!

Last year, I had a great time decorating our preschool’s auction! Don’t be too surprised, but they asked me to do it again this year!

The tree and the green above is our school’s logo. That is without the heart. The heart was added for the auction. I didn’t come up with the color scheme or the theme, but I love it! Bright green, dark green, hot pink and brown. Love it!

We decorated a little bit upstairs, around the stairs, in the silent auction room… But most of the decorating went into the live auction and dinner room!  We used a LOT of fans! Perfect! I love fans… We used them last year, too. I wonder if they will use them next year when we’re not around….

This is the room we started with….

And this is the room we ended with… And notice, I keep saying we… This was not all me by any means. I was the head of the committee, but we had a great, creative team that helped with the design and implementing the designs!

I took some process shots to see it coming together!

I admit, I’m kinda a control freak when it comes to designing and throwing parties. So doing this type of party by committee is a real lesson in patience that I need! And going with the flow is fantastic! There were a few things that didn’t go as planned, but turned out beautifully!

Like the enterpieces, for instance…. The original plan was to fill vases with limes. Great idea when limes aren’t at the highest prices EVER! Did you notice the prices of limes were insane this spring? Sooooo… What do you do? You take the tulle that was planned for the stairs, and fill the vases with limes and tulle!

And then I had cut all these strips of paper that were intended to stand up and add height to the centerpieces. Well that did’nt work… But curled, they worked perfectly as table scatter!

And if you’ve read about any of my parties, you know I love party favors! So I came up with this little felt flower that incorporates the heart of the auction and the tree leaves in the logo for a little table decoration and everyone’s party favor.

We made a BUNCH!

I think we pulled it all together quite nicely! What do you think?

WIP Wednesday!

What are my Works in Progress?? If only there weren’t so many!

MadronaRoadHexi-ImFeelinCrafty

You know I’m in love with hexi’s… I finished my Madrona Road Hexi insert. Now I need to finish the quilt it goes in!

FlipHexis2-ImFeelinCrafty

Since I finished one hexi project I had to start some more! So I started 2 more hexi projects! The first one is tiny little hexi’s for a swap. Luckyily it’s a pin cushion, or else it could be taking years! I was debating between all random or mostly green and blue with a couple of orange pieces thrown in. I’m going with the latter!

DoubleSidedHexi-ImFeelinCrafty

And I started a double sided hexi scrap quilt! With the batting already inside! It took me a while to figure out how to actually make it work with sewing the four pieces together at once. Now this one is going to take forever. And I’m ok with it! I raided my scrap bags and have started, but I’m trying to only use scraps on this one, soooo… I’m planning on it taking a while!

DinoPeek-ImFeelinCrafty

It’s not sewing, but…. And my party shop! it needs something new! How about dinos? I’m working on dinos now, but at the same time, in my head a spy party and a super hero party are floating around. Hopefuly soon they will all be for sale!

awesome

And lastly, another not sewing project… I’ve got to get in 30 hours of continuing education credits to keep my LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification before mid August! Yep. You heard right. mid-August! AHHHHH!!! So I’ve been taking a bunch of online classes and each one has a quiz at the end. Last night I passed a quiz on Brownfield sites. Lovely subject. But the response to passing the quiz was nice! All tests should end this way!

OK, now I need to go take another one!

Happy New Year!!!

Our New Year’s Eve is far from the glitz and glamour you see on TV, the internet and the movies. The brightest lights we’ll see will probably be the zoo lights in Tacoma! And I am perfectly content with that… Excited even!

But I have enjoyed seeing all the sparkle and glitter of the upcoming celebrations. Since I have done absolutely nothing for New Years, I’m living vicariously through these lovely pieces.

1. I love this photo of sparklers by Leslie Williams Art. That reminds me, I need to get some sparklers for this evening!

2. 2011 here we come! Glitter numbers by Mandie Candy.

3. I first saw this glitter star headband from Giant Dwarf on Design*Sponge and it would be great fun for a night out on the town!

4. Love the DIY glitter party hats! Check out Design*Sponge for the how to.

5. mmmm, mmm, mmm! Now if I was having a New Year’s Eve party, I’d want this set-up for sure. This might even inspire a party for next year…. Design by Chris Nease with Celebrations at Home.

6. And Happy New Year!

More fun to come in 2011…
