Mermaids!

I did it again…. I submitted a design to the Spoonflower Weekly contest again! It’s been a while since I’ve done it, but I did…

So be sure to vote (hopefully for me!)!

I know I talk a lot about the parties I design, and I don’t seem to show them very often. I’m getting them ready to show, I promise…. I have a huge backlog! BUT… In the meantime, I’m headed home to Bama to the beach next month, so I thought, maybe I’ll design a beachy party that I can photograph while I’m there. So of course the mermaid theme came to life. Then I saw the weekly contest posted! So it was great motivation to get some of the graphics done!

I’m not sure if it’s the final design or not. What do you think? What’s it missing? Would your little girl be interested in a mermaid party like this?

I’m thinking more of a watercolor look for the actual party graphics….

I can’t wait to get the party going!

Designing with the Kiddo

We’re at it again! The kiddo and I designed another fabric design for the Spoonflower weekly Design Contest! We had a great start and some fun feedback on our surf design (which is now available for sale here….) So we did it again!

Parade of Rhinos-ImFeelinCrafty

This week’s challenge is Rhino’s! The design didn’t come out quite like I had planned, but we like it! I drew the rhino, then photocopied it over and over and over. Next we ‘decorated’ the rhinos. Lastly, I scanned them all back into Photoshop and set up the design. Actually the whole family designed this one. Dad even got in on it and designed a few. We call it ‘Parade of Rhinos’!

I did sneak in another design between the surf and rhino challenges. I submitted one for the farm challenge. This one I wasn’t too excited about… I’m not sure exactly what it is, but it seems boring to me.

Our local Architecture Without Borders group and the local Architecture for Humanity are sponsoring a design competition that I think the kiddo and I are going to do too! The competition is to design a Free Little Library. The kiddo has wanted one for a while, so when I saw this design competition, I knew it was right up our alley! I’ll have to keep you posted on our progress!

Of our three designs, which one is your favorite? I’m thinking maybe pj’s made out of the rhinos… What do you think?

Surfin’ USA and a Contest

There’s another goal I’ve set up for myself. You know, because I need more to do….

Spoonflower-Surf-ImFeelinCrafty

Every week Spoonflower has a design contest. I keep saying I’m going to do it each week, but I haven’t yet. Until this week!

And how fitting that I decided to do this contest since I just posted the board shorts I made, huh??!! Totally not planned!

So each week they give you a topic and sometimes there are restrictions, like the color palette. Then you design a graphic that can be printed on fabric, etc, based on the topic and upload it to their website. Then you can decide if you want to offer the fabric for sale or not. Finally I saw the topic, came up with a design idea and actually sat down and did it! And the kiddo even helped. It ended up being a super fun project for us to do together. I want to make it at least a monthly project for us to do together.

So, now I need you to VOTE FOR US! Did you see that coming??

And it’s free swatch day! Get a free swatch of their faux suede here. Warning… You might waste a lot of time looking for just the right fabric!

Next contest is Farms…. Any ideas?

Weekend Whims- Spoonflower Cut and Sew Projects

Two things happened recently to remind me of a project I started a few years back and never finished… I had started an ABC of fake animals photographs I had taken… The idea was that it was going to be a book. But of course I had other ideas of what to do with the photos. Like maybe have them printed on fabric and make ABC blocks… Yep! I was gonna do it. And am now excited about finishing it!

oh, yeah, those two things that reminded me about it.. One, I am so excited to have a close high school friend visiting me this week with her family and she is pushing me to get some of my projects done that I’ve been talking about… And two, I saw this great camera bag cut and sew project on Spoonflower this week! And of course, you can’t go to Spoonflower without looking around and I found a few other cut and sew projects that I love!

1. So my friend that is visiting has a 2-year-old daughter and she LOVES airplanes! Lucky for her we live under the flight path to the airport… And she loves stuffies, so how perfect is this plane doll design by Tante_Lein? Except I would need to add a tag, because tags are so in these days, at least in the eyes of this 2-year-old!

2. I love the skeleton doll by Happy Sew Lucky ! I think I love it most because it has the pumpkin dress!!

3. All of a sudden yesterday my son started singing this song about Yeti’s. it must have been from a show he watched, but it’s hilarious! After one day he of singing this song he decided he wanted his next birthday party to be a Yeti party! hmmmm… I bet he’d love this Yeti doll from KFay.

4. Speaking of parties, my nephew is about to have a Ninja birthday party. These little ninja guys from Engravogirl would make a great party favor!

5. And the very cool camera bag that started this whole thing…. From Happy Sew Lucky.

Do you all know what Spoonflower is? It’s a company that prints your designs on fabric. So you can design something, upload and sell it. You can buy it just for you or you can put it out for everyone else to buy too. There are some FANTASTIC fabric designs on there! Has anyone uploaded any designs for sell???? Feel free to share your favorite Spoonflower fabric or cut and sew project with us!!
