Madrona Road Challenge- An OLD WIP, finally finished!

If you are a member of the Modern Quilt Guild, you are probably familiar with the fabric challenges they do. I used to love them! I would get so excited and sign up right away for my free fabric. The problem is there are deadlines. You are supposedly to make a quilt using their fabrics within a certain time frame… I had a problem with staying within that timeline… A bad problem..  Does anyone remember the Madrona Road Fabric Challenge???

MadronaRoadHexi-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

In 2012 (yes, 7 years ago now, see what I mean??) The Modern Quilt Guild announced their Winter Fabric Challenge. You signed up and then got the fabric around the first of Decemeber that year and were supposed to finish the quilt by January 31st. This fabric bundle was the Madrona Road line from Violet Craft for Michael Miller.

MadronaRoadHexi-ImFeelinCrafty

I had originally design this quilt to be a rainbow of hexi’s, but when I got this fabric, I decided to go with this designing using the Madrona Road to make the hexi’s. I started these hexi’s the summer of 2013. See, I was already behind. Way behind! Violet Craft had already selected her favorites!

WIP-MadronaRdFront-ImFeelinCrafty

WIP-MadronaRdBk-ImFeelinCrafty

I finished the top and back in January of 2014! And that’s when this quilt went into the pile of WIP’s. Wishing to be quilted… Yelling at me from the shelf… See, these pictures even have my old ‘logo.’

GreyQuilt

Then in 2017, this photo made it’s first appearance in the Finish A Long posts that I was participating in. (still am, though missed the last one!) And it’s been showing up every couple of months since then. Sitting basted, waiting to be quilted….

MadronaRoadHexi-Quilting-ImFeelinCrafty

And then last year it finally got quilted! What a long story for this little quilt!

MadronaRoadHexi-Corner-ImFeelinCrafty

MadronaRoadHexi-HexieDetail-ImFeelinCrafty

I just quilted it in straight line quilting with accent quilting around the box.

WIP-MadronaRd-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

Of course, the other thing with the challenges is they don’t give you much of the fabric, so you pretty much have to buy more if you want to make more than a mini. and I did. I used the yellow flower fabric on the back.

MadronaRoadHexi-Label-ImFeelinCrafty

And you know I love a label shot!

MadronaRoadHexi-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

So this quilt started back in 2013 and had a long journey of 5 years before I finally finished it last year about this is same time. And I guess you could call it 6 years, if you count the year it took to actually blog about it! I finished it and put it in my son’s school auction. His best friend’s family purchased it and it lives on their couch just a block away! We went over to take care of their cat and I saw it sitting out. I was like, that looks familiar! Ha!

And needless to say, since I can’t keep up with the deadlines of the fabric challenges, I no longer participate in them.

It does feel nice getting a WIP finished and then to know it’s being loved by someone.

Finish Along Quarter 4 2017 Goals!

Last quarter was a bust. Nothing finished. I did finish one top that was on my list, but otherwise the list is right where I left it… But I’m going to switch up a few things!

I have two holiday quilts I am super excited about making! A Halloween quilt and a Christmas quilt!

capture

I want to start and finish my Christmas quilt! I’ve been thinking about it all year, but haven’t been able to get to it!

And I said I wasn’t going to do this, but I’m super excited about this Halloween fabric and quilt design I have up my sleeve!

Then there are two do Good Stitches quilts that I have to finish before the end of the year!

AprilDoGood-Minis-ImFeelinCrafty

And here’s a sneak peek at the next Nurture Circle do Good quilt. I have the top done for this one. I think the back might be the bottom fabric in the Halloween pile.

My second one for this year is the star quilt! I can’t wait to get this one put together!

This one is a new one! I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about this one. It’s our Seattle MQG BOM this year. And I’ve been keeping up with this one, so it shouldn’t be hard to get this one done!

And this is the reason I didn’t get more on my list done last quarter! I started this one! The top is done, so it’s close to being finished!

And now back to my nice long list of WIP’s that have been waiting around to get finished!

MightyLuckyJan-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

And there’s this one I’d like to finish from a year ago. It’s slated as a gift….

IMG_0611

I’ve picked this one up again and hope to finish it ASAP for the whole gift giving thing!  This one uses the quick curve ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful

The last three I want to keep working on, or start, but I doubt I’ll finish them!

SeaSlabBOM-May-Quilting1-ImFeelinCrafty

My Seattle Modern Quilt Guild BOM quilt ….

TechnicolorBlocks-WholeCircle-ImFeelinCrafty

I’m STILL working on the Technicolor Galaxy Quilt!

GreyQuilt

This is an old one that has been sitting on the shelf for about 3 years. Sitting there with a front and back done! So it just needs a little quilting love… It’s basted. It’s getting so close… Like right next to my machine!

And that’s my ongoing to do list! I know it won’t all get done, but I like having all my WIP’s in one To-Do-List!

Finish Along Quarter 4

This finish list of goals for the 4th quarter just might look familiar… It’s pretty much the same as last quarter! Sorry to be boring! I finished my beach quilt, but that’s about it! Part of it was my machine was in the shop all summer. But I’ve got it back and it’s humming along beautifully! Yea!! So here’s my list…. (again)

FinishAlong-WIP-Dad-ImFeelinCrafty

Dad’s back is done, it’s been quilted by my friends at West Seattle Fabrics and now it just needs binding! I can do it!

FinishALong-RileyBlake-ImFeelinCrafty

There were two that I was supposed to do this sumer… First up, The Riley Blake Challenge quilt. I totally missed the deadline on this one, but I still want to finish it!

FinishALong-BabyBlanket-ImFeelinCrafty

The second one was a baby minkie rag quilt and other nursery room accessories. I did actually finish it, but haven’t gotten to show it off yet!

FinishALong-doGood-ImFeelinCrafty

I also have another do Good Stitches Quilt to put together. This one uses my Inside Out Pineapple Block!! I can’t wait to see it all put together! I had to make an extra couple of blocks and as much as I love this pattern, it’s a bit time consuming!

glitz-metallic

This is a new one to add to the list! I entered into the Michael Miller Glitz Challenge. I’ve got my fabric, but no clue what to do with it! hmmmm….

882182_AV_R

Oh, and there’s the EZ Quilting Challenge triangle quilt challenge…. Also a Quiltcon challenge like the Michael Miller one. Again, I’ve gotten the ruler, but no clue what to do with it.

SMQGBOM-July-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

Technicolor02-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

OK, I am also working on two Block of the Month quilts that I’m hoping to finish this year…. The Technicolor Galaxy Quilt and the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild Block of the Month quilts!

IMG_7558

IMG_7592

I’d love to get these two done too! But same as last quarter, no promises on these!

OK, I think that’s enough! I need to get to work!

2015 FAL at On the Windy Side

WIPs on Wednesday!

I have so much that I’m working on…. I didn’t have half of this until I decided to make my own mini Quiltcon right here at home, with a quilt class on Thursday night, a lecture on Friday night and a workshop on Saturday!

colors

Well…. This one I’m supposed to be working on… But I’m nervous and haven’t quite started sewing anything yet….

Capture

And this one I was moving on pretyy fast until my quilting class bonanza! I’m hoping to finish it this week!

IMG_7558

This is the one I started in my class on Thursday with Katie. And I did inherit most of the finished pieces from a quilting friend! When I finish it will be similar to these quilts of Katie’s.

IMG_7592

And my improv start!

WIP-Dads2-ImFeelinCrafty

And lastly, I’ve still got to finish Dad’s quilt! I’m so close!!!

How many do you have on your list????

WIP-FP

WIPS on Wedn… I Mean On Thursday! (and a request for pattern testers)

Man, I’ve been having some horrible eye issues that have been slowing me down! 4 doctors, 5 medications and 3 diagnosis… And it all comes down to allergies and Dry Eye! Who knew?? I’ve seen commercials for it and never ever would have thought that dry eye could be so painful! It’s getting better though! Yea!

WIP-Binding-ImFeelinCrafty

Between keeping my eyes closed I’ve been working on some quilting projects! Coming soon will be more kids clothes, but…. I had totally forgotten that I was totally down to the wire on time, so I did a super quick machine binding on it. So I’m going back and finishing the binding by hand and removing the hanging strip.

WIP-BrownBlue-ImFeelinCrafty

I’m working that hand sewing thing! A neighbor put a call out for rec’s on someone to fix a quilt, so I said I could probably help her. This had a bunch of seams failing around the blocks, so I fixed those. After I was about 80% through with it, I realized I should have just taken out a side seam, turned it inside out and fixed it on the machine… Oh, well….

WIP-BrownBlue2-ImFeelinCrafty

It also has one hole in it that she wanted patched. So I added a little ehexi with fusible interfacing then went back and added a blanket stitch.

WIP-Gators1-ImFeelinCrafty

And lastly… it’s that alligator again! I know you’re probably tired of seeing it…. But sorry! I’m going to be showing more of it in the months to come! I’m also looking for pattern testers! I need some for the whole quilt top and some for just the gator itself! Please email if you’re interested!

WIP-Gators2-ImFeelinCrafty

The quilt is actually going to have 3 gators… I’m almost done with 2!!!

What have you been working on? Are you getting ready for Kids Clothes Week? Or sewing along with Project Run and Play? I’ve been planning, but only in my head!

WIP Wednesday!

I’m usually a one project at a time, but this month I’ve got all sorts of things going on! Our local Modern Quilt Guild retreat kinda helped with that! I’ll tell ya more about all the fun at the retreat on Friday! But now, do you want to see what I’m working on??

WIP-MadronaRdFront-ImFeelinCrafty

First up…. My Madrona Road project… Yes, this was a Modern Quilt Guild challenge from, oh, a year and a half ago maybe??? The hexi’s in the middle were my first attempt at hand sewing and hand sewing hexagons. And it got me hooked! Love them!

WIP-MadronaRdBk-ImFeelinCrafty

So Friday night of the retreat, I got the top and back of the quilt done! I’ve had the hexagon section done for a while, but I put the rest of the top together and the back!

WIP-Dads1-ImFeelinCrafty

Then Saturday morning of the retreat we had an activity, then lunch, then I started on this one! If you remember, I designed this quilt for my husband last December. And a year later, I started it!

WIP-Dads2-ImFeelinCrafty

By the end of the day, I had this! It’s about 80 inches wide now. I don’t have much further to go. But I ran out of fabric and my bobbin ran out and I wanted to get home for the Super Bowl, so I stopped!

WIP-SMQGBOM-ImFeelinCrafty

Next up… I’ve also got my pieces cut for our Quilt Guild’s January BOM! I’m going to do the bigger one in the same colors as my husband’s quilt, so have a matching pillow! And then the smaller one is going to be one of this month’s blocks for my do. Good Stitches group. Tutorials for both can be found here.

WIP-RileyBlake-ImFeelinCrafty

And lastly, my Riley Blake Challenge! I’m a bit late getting started, but I think I can have it done in time. It took me a while to figure out what to make. Then my husband said, ‘You like bags, make a bag.’ Hello? at first I kinda turned my nose up at his idea… I don’t need another bag… Then I remembered I was just thinking that I wanted a bag to carry my quilts in while I’m adding on the binding. I tote them around to gymnastics, etc… So that’s what I’m doing!

Then there’s a few kids clothes projects piling up too! AHHH! SO much to do! Oh, and getting my gator quilt pattern together… Oh, and… and…. Does it ever end??

What are you working on?

WIP-FP

A Couple of Wednesday WIPs!

I was realizing the other day that I took the Process Pledge, but lately I’ve only been showing things finished. Some things take longer than others, as you know! And these two projects are taking a while!

WIPs-Gator-1-ImFeelinCrafty

The first one is my gator quilt.

WIPs-Gator-Pattern-ImFeelinCrafty

At the moment I’m kinda obsessed with looking at origami animals and translating them into my own quilt blocks! It all started with the little fox skirt and pattern I used. But now, I’m making my own!

WIPs-Gator-Body-ImFeelinCrafty

I wasn’t going to do a gator, but then I got this fabric and I knew I needed to make a gator! And so far I’m really liking it!

WIPs-Gator-Head-ImFeelinCrafty

I was going to do circles for eyes, but I couldn’t get them perfect so I switched gears. I decided to piece them together like I’ve done for everything else. Ends up that I love them this way. Plus I’m going to making 2 more gators, each one smaller then the other, so I knew that the circles would just get harder!

WIPs-Halloween-Binding-ImFeelinCrafty

The second quilting project I’m working on is my Halloween quilt. Working on the finishing up the binding now. I know it’s late for Halloween! Actually, I’m going to say it’s so early for Halloween! And I should be done for next October!

WIPs-Halloween-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

I’ve had this fabric for about as long (if not longer) than I’ve had my kiddo! I love the panel, but have never worked with panels, so wasn’t sure what to do with it. I figured it though.

WIPs-Halloween-Bats-ImFeelinCrafty

Yep, it has another animal quilt block in it designed by yours truly! More about this one closer to Halloween! I’m leaving you on the edge of your seat I know!

What are you working on?

Shared with these link parties!

WIP Wednesday!

What are my Works in Progress?? If only there weren’t so many!

MadronaRoadHexi-ImFeelinCrafty

You know I’m in love with hexi’s… I finished my Madrona Road Hexi insert. Now I need to finish the quilt it goes in!

FlipHexis-ImFeelinCrafty

FlipHexis2-ImFeelinCrafty

Since I finished one hexi project I had to start some more! So I started 2 more hexi projects! The first one is tiny little hexi’s for a swap. Luckyily it’s a pin cushion, or else it could be taking years! I was debating between all random or mostly green and blue with a couple of orange pieces thrown in. I’m going with the latter!

DoubleSidedHexi-ImFeelinCrafty

And I started a double sided hexi scrap quilt! With the batting already inside! It took me a while to figure out how to actually make it work with sewing the four pieces together at once. Now this one is going to take forever. And I’m ok with it! I raided my scrap bags and have started, but I’m trying to only use scraps on this one, soooo… I’m planning on it taking a while!

DinoPeek-ImFeelinCrafty

It’s not sewing, but…. And my party shop! it needs something new! How about dinos? I’m working on dinos now, but at the same time, in my head a spy party and a super hero party are floating around. Hopefuly soon they will all be for sale!

awesome

And lastly, another not sewing project… I’ve got to get in 30 hours of continuing education credits to keep my LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification before mid August! Yep. You heard right. mid-August! AHHHHH!!! So I’ve been taking a bunch of online classes and each one has a quiz at the end. Last night I passed a quiz on Brownfield sites. Lovely subject. But the response to passing the quiz was nice! All tests should end this way!

OK, now I need to go take another one!

WIP’s This Wednesday

I was debating on what to chat about today… Since my surgery, I wasn’t getting a lot of sewing time in, until just the other day. I have finished a few projects, but I’m not ready to share. And then I remembered all those confusing WIP Wednesday posts I used to see on other quilting blogs. WHAT are they talking about??? I don’t know if I should even admit how long it took me to realize what WIP means…

Works in Progress!

Hello???heartProgress-I'mFeelin'Crafty

I’m super excited about how my project for the Modernista Homemade swap is coming along. My son, once again, helped lay out the pieces!

fabrics-I'mFeelin'Crafty

And I got a pile of fabric today! I was asked by my son’s preschool to help with a few auction items. One is the Decorations for the main event. But also my son’s class project is going to be a quilt this year. I got to design it! There are going to be a white block that the kids make with a Kaleidoscope like block between each white one. I think it’s going to be cool!

auction-quilt-final

Have you seen The Long Thread’s Kaleidoscope Quilt??? It totally inspired my idea! I think it’s just fantastic!! I’ve been watching the progress, but watched, not read, is key here. I mean it’s totally eye candy!  I just actually did read about it and it was for her child’s school auction too! How funny!!!
