A Little Tooth Fairy Pillow!

Did you know I’m obsessed with cross stitching? I did it as a kid in 1985 or 1986ish. Then it went to the wayside… But I’m back to cross stitch. And I have way too many patterns to make than time to make them!

But I was able to get the kiddo’s tooth fairy pillow down just in the nick of time. I had been saying I wanted to make him a pillow for ages. Then I saw this pattern and fell in love. So I started. Then I finished, literally, about a week before he lost his first tooth. Right before his 8th birthday. He was late to get his teeth, so late to loose them…

Each time I do a cross stitch project, I seem to use a different method. For this one I used the soluble grid. I loved it while I was stitching! It made the stitching on linen so easy. But then as it dissolved, it made the stitching hard… Maybe I should have washed it again? I don’t know… Can you tell by the pictures? I can tell when I run my fingers over it.

The other learning moment I had on this project was to not work your way into the middle! For the tooth, I did one wing, then the other. Then went back to do the tooth. When I got close to the other wing, I realized that I didn’t have enough space to get my rows in at the same size…Oops! Not sure how it happened actually.

The pattern showed the design on a pocket that was sewn on the front of the pillow. The kiddo didn’t want that. So I made a little pocket on the back. In hindsight, I should have made it bigger. It fits his little teeth perfectly, but it’s a bit small for the tooth fairy to leave her cash!

I also used glow in the dark floss for the tooth and the swirls in the background. And it glows. It didn’t glow enough to get a good picture, so you’ll just have to trust me!

The pattern is by Emma Congdon for Cross Stitcher Magazine Volume 297 and stitched by me!

Another Quilt for my Vintage Quilt Collection

Most of you probably know I collect vintage quilts. I have a bunch. Way to many… When we go antiquing my son tries to steer me away from vintage quilts… Silly kid. He doesn’t know I have some weird magnet that draws me to these things….

This one is my newest! I don’t know how old it is.

But I do know who made it and where it’s from! It’s from Clanton, AL. It was made by Beulah, a lady who worked for my great grandmother. It’s been in our family since then.

Each block is sewn on with a zig zag stitch. My stepmom said it was in better shape, not as many frays, until it got cleaned. It’s so hard to know how to clean vintage quilts! Different ways and different results for each fabric. And how they react to however you clean it, age can set in and give you results you weren’t expecting. This one was professionally cleaned.

My vintage collection is growing. There are some I use, but so many that I am afraid to use becuase I don’t want them to need to be cleaned! This is one that I’m keeping in a special place and not using. I wish I had a larger house to display them in! One day! They are all works of art!

Finish Along Quarter 1 2017 Goals!

Ok, I just got a new machine, but have been sick and haven’t even gotten it out of the box! But this weekend…. I’m starting my list!! It’s pretty similar I know…. Ok so these top three are all done and basted… Just waiting to be quilted….

And the third one that I can’t find a picture for is an old one that has been sitting on the shelf for about 3 years. Sitting there with a front and back done! So it just needs a little quilting love…

I’m STILL working on the Technicolor Galaxy Quilt!

I’m also inspired to finish this one using the quick curve ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful! I have a great idea of who it is going to go to, so I’m inspired again!

InsideOutPineapple-Cover-ImFeelinCrafty

There’s a requested Christmas mini quilt using my Inside Out Pineapple block….. That I have started, but not finished… These blocks take a long time! It’s worth it in the end, but….

And I’d love to get caught up on my Seattle Modern Quilt Guild BOM quilt by the end of the year….

And lastly, a new one to the list, but I want to start and finish it now. It’s a Christmas quilt and I want to have it done for next year and at the rate I’m going, it won’t be done, unless I do it now!

Ok, this list is insane long… AGAIN…. But I want to get these DONE!!!!!!!! And some are almost done! I won’t finish them all, of course, but I’m hoping to make a good dent in the pile!
