FLIP This Pattern- Time to Vote!

Did you see the full post of my outfit yesterday? If not I have it here, but today I need you to VOTE for my look! Please! Voting is going on today and Saturday. That’s it, just two days!

FTPSummer14

Like I said yesterday, I was super excited to participate in the series, but I was super excited once I saw the pattern. In case you don’t know the pattern, it’s the Charlie Top from Zonen 09. And it looks like this:

Charlie_1-2_1024x1024

It’s a lined, knit shirt, basically. The front and back is lined. The pattern also comes with long and short sleeves. Very easy and fun pattern! So I took it from the above look, to the coat and hoodie look below… Check it out!

Flip-Main-ImFeelinCrafty-500

Flip-HoodieSide-ImFeelinCrafty500

I ended up doing two ‘Flips’. I thought and thought about it and I couldn’t come up with ANYTHING! Honestly, I was having a super hard time coming up with anything other than the super cool shirt. But that wasn’t really a flip, now was it? So I got to sewing, anyway. I decided that if I started sewing something that I’d be inspired.

Flip-HoodieSerious-ImFeelinCrafty500

So, the first ‘Flip’ Is a hoodie. From the front, it looks pretty much like the original pattern, huh?  I really do love this pattern. It was super simple and I love that it’s lined.

Flip-HoodieDtl-ImFeelinCrafty5000

Flip-HoodieBack-ImFeelinCrafty500

Flip-HoodieUpSilly-ImFeelinCrafty500

But from the back, it’s obviously a hoodie! My son loves hoodies and he likes them big, so I made it a bit over-sized. I think he likes to pretend that he’s The Emperor from Star Wars!

Flip-HoodieUp-ImFeelinCrafty500

I drafted a hoodie pattern while keeping the bottom of the hoodie the same collar pattern piece of the actual pattern. And then it came to me….

Flip-JacketFront-ImFeelinCrafty500

A coat! A little blazer like coat. The kiddo has such a good time getting dressed up at Easter, maybe he’d like a another little blazer to wear around! (He can really get into the serious model look!)

Flip-JacketFrontDtl-ImFeelinCrafty500

For this one I used the pattern, I just cut two top pieces and overlapped them about an inch or so. I obviously used woven fabric instead of knits. And the kiddo and I designed some stitch patterns around the front. If you follow my blog, you know that I always use snaps… I was really going to use buttons on this project. I had just gotten my machine fixed so it would do the buttons, but it ends up they gave me a wrong foot. AHHH! So I’ll always be known as the snap lady!

Flip-JacketBack-ImFeelinCrafty500

I got this fancy Japanese denim to use for my jacket, but once I got it home, I didn’t like it. I wanted more of a khaki. But what d’ya know! I just happened to have a pair of khaki pants on my shelf to repurpose. Perfect! I used the hem of the pants for the hem of coat!

Flip-JacketFront2-ImFeelinCrafty500

Flip-JacketStanding-ImFeelinCrafty500

Flip-JacketLast-ImFeelinCrafty500

We had a good time picking out the fabric together and detailing the stitches! We also named it the ‘Bubble’ top, because it’s not quite polka dots. More like bubbles… And the coat lining is word bubbles… Get it! We think we’re pretty clever, me and my kiddo!

I had fun with it! If you’ve made it here, you read the whole thing! And that’s awesome! Now, don’t forget to vote! Thanks again for voting!!

Breeze Top Pattern Tour and a Giveaway!

I keep saying it recently, but it’s true! I’m just floored by all the talent I’ve had the opportunity of meeting doing this whole blogging thing! Another of my amazing blogging friend, Shannon of Little Kids Grow, has released yet another great pattern to her pattern line, Peaches and Peanuts! Be sure to check out the New Release Info!

BreezeTop-Main-ImFeelinCrafty copy

It’s the Breeze Top! I’m not sure were the name came from, but I will say it’s a ‘breeze’ to make! Ha! I crack myself up! I love being a pattern tester for Shannon! She’s really got it down with getting the info out and keeping up on questions. Makes our job as testers super simple!

BreezeTop-Shoulder2-ImFeelinCrafty

BreezeTop-Side2-ImFeelinCrafty

BreezeTop-Top-ImFeelinCrafty

The pattern has two versions, one for the woven fabric and another for a knit version. I did the woven and think it’s pretty adorable! (as is my guest model, don’t you think?) The top is a bit asymetterical with buttons only on one side. And I love me some asymettric! And you know me, I do snaps, not buttons. But it didn’t change the top any. I love the high top with the added fullness in the body.

BreezeTop-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

BreezeTop-Back2-ImFeelinCrafty

The top is a racer back top, which I love for the girls! There’s a bit of elastic that runs from the side to the racer back connection. We were a bit nervous sewing this pattern for my niece because she doesn’t like tight. And she can sometimes be irritated by fabrics rubbing her skin. I debated my elastic measurements. Do I stick to the pattern directions? Or do I make it a little bit looser? I decided to stick with the pattern and see how it goes…. It worked! It was tight enough to keep the top close to the body without showing anything we didn’t want to show. But it wasn’t tight enough to cause any irritation to her skin! Perfect!

BreezeTop-Bottom-ImFeelinCrafty

Then there’s the bottom band. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to include the bottom band. But since I was testing, I knew I needed to at least give it a whirl. But first I didn’t. And I sent it home for a test fit. It fit fine, but was obviously a bit short. So I added it on, easy peasy. And now the length is great. It also keeps it from flying up when the kiddos are playing!

BreezeTop-BackBubbles-ImFeelinCrafty

And trust me, it works for playing! And popping bubbles! I took my ‘assistant’ with me for the photo shoot and they had a great time!

BreezeTop-Main2-ImFeelinCrafty

I think it’s a great pattern for the little ladies! It comes in sizes 8 thru 16. I’m hoping for a woman’s version too!  Today is the first day of the blog tour, so be sure to check out the other versions! Including the knit version!

Shannon is also hosting a great giveaway on her blog! She’s giving away (3) Breeze Top patterns and (3) $25 Gift Certificates to The Ribbon Retreat. And I just ordered from The Ribbon Retreat, and it came super fast! Love!  Anyway, click here for the giveaway!

‘Gator Quilt Blog Hop- Me Again and a Giveaway!

Yes, it’s the last day of the blog hop… So sad! I’ve loved seeing what everyone has made with the ‘Gator quilt. It was such fun and is inspiring me to make another one!

GatorQuilt-Main-ImFeelinCrafty

Well, I did make another one, but this is actually my very first one!

GatorQuilt-Gator2-ImFeelinCrafty

This was actually my original one. My first test. I just happened to make it while our Modern Quilt Guild was preparing for our Binary quilt show, meaning quilts with only 2 colors.  I made the large ‘gator block. Then I realized, hey! It’s only two colors, I could make this into a quilt for the Binary show. I was only using shades yellow and green. Perfect!

GatorQuilt-BackgroundDtl-ImFeelinCrafty

Then I realized I was out of yellow! So my quilt guild pal that took over my spot at the fabric shop was kind enough to bring me what I thought was the right yellow. But…… It wasn’t. At first, I was wondering how I was going to make it work. Then I started piecing some other blue greens and yellows in and it’s perfect! I love it!

GatorQuilt-Back-ImFeelinCrafty

I wish I had used some of the animal fabric from my other ‘gator quilt on the back of this one, but I was nervous about running out, so I didn’t! I love a fun pieced back!

GatorQuilt-Gator-ImFeelinCrafty

I did make a few changes to the pattern after this. Mostly in the piecing, but also in the teeth! My very first tester suggested more teeth, so I made more! They are hard to see here, but there are only 3 white teeth. I do like them better with more, but you can alter the pattern for as many teeth as you’d like!

You can purchase the pattern in my Etsy shop here.

GatorQuilt-Last-ImFeelinCrafty

And for the giveaway! I’ll give away 2 patterns to 2 readers!  I know, usually you do that at the beginning of the blog hop… I had intended to do it with the testers pictures post I did on Friday. But if you follow me on Instagram, you know our pup was viciously attacked by a pit bull on our morning walk last week. And since then I’ve been a mess! So it took me a week to get the giveaway together! Ready?

Ready to WIN? You have Three ways to enter! And come back and leave a separate comment on this post for each entry!

1. Tell me what you’d make with the pattern! The whole quilt, a pillow, a bag? Leave one comment. (one entry)

2. My blog followers get an extra entry. Click on the links to the right to follow. Leave one comment. (one entry)

3. Follow I’m Feelin’ Crafty on Instagram. Leave one comment. (one entry)

‘Gator Quilt Blog Hop- Crafty Shenanigans Sneak Peak

I can’t believe we’re already nearing the end of the ‘Gator quilt Blog Hop!! Today is our last guest…. Sad but true! Yall will just have to start making them so I can show off reader’s talents!

Gator closeup (2)

Today’s guest is Amy from Crafty Shenanigans! Amy says that she’s a chocoholic living in London England.  When she tried paper piecing for the first time( think it was 2011) she cried (real crocodile tears) out of frustration but persevered and now LOVE LOVE LOVE paper piecing.  The more complex the better for her now! And it shows!

Amy and I first met in a swap! Those flickr swaps that I love doing!  I was her swap partner…  The funny thing was, in this swap she wasn’t my first partner. I had someone else for a like a day, but there was a pet allergy involved and they switched me to be Amy’s partner instead. BUT.. I had been a flickr follower of her’s before that. At first, I was trying to figure a way to not be her partner. Totally intimidated!  I was like, but what am I going to make for her??? she’s awesome!! I was totally nervous!!!

Be sure to check out Amy’s blog for more on her ‘Gator! You’ve got to get a better look at how perfect her fabric and quilting is!

‘Gator Quilt Blog Hop- Shaffer Sisters Sneak Peek

OK! I am still just amazed at the creativity I get to surround myself with with my bloggy friends! What did people do before the internet??? I feel so lucky to know all these amazing talents! And here’s some more amazingness with the ‘Gator quilt!!

alligator-paper-pieced-quilt-pattern-i'm-feeling-crafty (1)

Today’s guest is Al from The Shaffer Sister’s blog! If I had sisters, I hope we’d be crafty together like these sisters! A little bit about Al…

For as long as I can remember, those that truly love me have called me Al or other variations of Al; Al the Pal, Alfred, and Albert (Einstein- I love physics) have all been nicknames. Not super girly I know, but my ideal escape would be to go play basketball until I am sweaty and the muscles in my legs are so tired they are twitching. My best description of myself would be to say that I am a cross between super particular and easy going. The particular side of me demands perfection and control (mostly manifest in my projects- that’s why I enjoy quilts). The easy going side of me thrives to be around people (especially when you can get to know someone one-on-one). Luckily, being a mom of 2 kids (and expecting an addition of one next month) and the wife of a student that struggles with school has helped me learn to channel my need for control in ways that everyone can enjoy.

I love yesterday’s quilt and Al’s today! My Dad and I used to always say this to each other when I was a little kid!  I can’t wait to see this  ‘Gator in more detail! Be sure to check out Al’s blog for more on her ‘Gator!

‘Gator Quilt Blog Hop- Wips and Tuts Sneak Peek

Ready for more ‘Gator quilting! ?!

wips1-IMG_0108

Today’s guest is Christine from Wips and Tuts! Christina just started quilting less than a year ago making quilts as gifts. This is what she had to say about paper piecing, ‘When I initially had trouble quilting, I turned to paper piecing, and it was a saving grace for me. I love how the blocks turn out (almost) perfect every time, and the possibilities are endless…more than you could accomplish with rotary cutting.’ Exactly, my friend!!!

wips4-IMG_0096

I love how so many have so many different ideas for the eyes! I love the look of these! Christina also love incorporating words into her quilting, so I love how she added the Later to the ‘Gator. Does this mean I’ll have to do a Crocodile next??? hmmmm…. Be sure to check out Christina’s blog for more info on her experience with the ‘Gator!

And we’re back for more ‘Gator quilting! In case you were following along, you might have noticed we missed a day. Unfortunately, yesterday’s guest has been pretty ill, so everyone please send your best thoughts her way!!

Finished Alligator quilt-Wombat

Today’s guest is new my quilty friend Cath from Wombat Quilts. She’s from Australia, but now lives closer to me in Portland! I can’t wait to get to Portland and meet her one day soon. Cath is a mater at paper piecing, so I had to ask her to join in on the testing of the ‘Gator. I love all the patterns she pieces! I was totally inspired by her neon pink quilt, that I have ordered neon blue…

the gator-Wombat

I’m so in love with Cath’s ‘Gator quilt! Did you notice the yellow teeth! I don’t know why I love them so. I love seeing the ‘Gator pieced with different fabrics by the testers! I’m not sure why I never envisioned this before, but I love it. Be sure to Cath’s blog to learn more!

‘Gator Quilt Blog Hop- Tester Pics!

I am just loving seeing all the creativity in the ‘Gator Quilt! It’s remarkable to me how you can give someone the pattern and then from one pattern, such different pieces are created! I love it!

I had a wonderful bunch of testers. Some of which finished projects, others who just finished a block or two and then there are the ones who made a finished project but don’t have a blog to share it on. Today I’m sharing the work of some of these testers!

etsytester-1

etsytester-2

The first one is my ‘etsy tester’ as I call her! Sharon contacted me on etsy when I first posted a picture of the quilt and asked if it was ready to be purchased. This was a while back, so I had to say no. But then I thought, I do need testers (see this was before testers even!). So she took it on, twice! I love her two quilts! Especially the clock in the belly from Peter Pan!!! I also love what she did with the ‘Gator’s eyes! The roses are from a pattern created by Beth at Piece By Number and the alphabet is from Linda at Paper Panache.

KarenBolan-IMG_2

Next up is Karen is new to the quilting world. This is her second paper piecing project. Her goal right now is to gain proficiency with as many quilting skills as possible. In “real life” she is an engineer living in Northern California. I love that it’s pink! It’s the first pink ‘gator I’ve seen!!

MarjorieNath-Aligator test

Next is Marjorie in Mexico! Now this one is cool too by using the different colors! I love how the blue and green pop! Marjorie is making this one into a wall hanging for a friend who’s nick name is ‘Gator! How fun!

KerrieErb-gator4

And Kerrie is the last one to share today! Kerrie is an avid sewer who just started paper piecing around October of last year and was super excited to try this one! She was able to test the small and medium ‘gator for me. I love the texture in the patterns that she used. They just look great!

The quilt pattern is color coded. But only with codes like background color, body color, etc… So this way, you can come up with your very own personalized ‘Gator! And by the looks of the tester projects, everyone was able to do just that!

Keep checking in for more ‘Gator fun!
